2. The article also says the Catholic Church deprived him of his parish. What's with that?
And that he "has developed an intense activity in defense of Nature"--which I presume means that he is a dedicated environmental activist.

He is a Franciscan priest who has served the poor in Honduras for 22 years, and is a naturalized citizen of Honduras (originally from El Salvador).

The founder and patron saint of the Franciscan order is Saint Francis of Assissi, a man after my own heart, who took Jesus' simple message, "Love they neighbor as thyself" more seriously than the Catholic Church has ever done, and not only identified with the poor, but also considered the birds, flowers, trees, donkeys, cows, foxes, fish and all living things to be his "neighbor."

Sounds like this man is a true Franciscan, and, as such, he would certainly be perceived as a threat by "the powers that be"--by the fascist junta, of course, which serves the interests of global corporate predators, and by the velvet-gold-and-lace cardinals and bishops of the Catholic Church, many of whom who serve, um--no, i won't say it--many of whom serve themselves and their fascist cronies.

President Zelaya, whose family made its fortune in logging, had an "awakening" with regard to destruction of the environment, and became an environmentalist as president. Interesting that St. Francis followed the same learning curve--born in luxury, later to become a "neighbor" not only to the poor, but also to Mother Nature's critters.

And here is this "simple" Franciscan, offending everybody by taking Jesus seriously. Yup, they would want to deport him, too!
