Juan Manuel Serrat, then and now
Edited on Sat Feb-23-08 07:19 PM by Xipe Totec
Ok, so he's not Latin American; he is Catalan (Province of Spain).

But Serrat is beloved from Sonora to Patagonia.

This is one of the best recognized songs, Paraules d'amor (Words of Love) sung not in Castillian, the official language of Spain but in Catalan, the language of the old kingdom of Cataluña.

From 1967, the original rendition:

Serrat - paraulles d'amor

And more than 30 years later: (watch the standing ovation, and the audience sing-along)

Joan Manuel Serrat - Paraules d'amor

and finally, a modern rendition:

Beth paraules d'amor
