Zelaya, family to get safe conduct to leave Braz. Embassy and the country on Jan. 27

An accord was signed today by Gorilobo and Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernández to that effect.

Gorilobo also pledges:

-- to form a national reconciliation government and to fortify democracy.

-- upon assuming office (Jan. 27) he will issue a safe-conduct pass for Z, his family and circle of close friends to leave the country for Santo Domingo where he will be a "guest" of the DR government.

-- promises to head a government that will respect human rights of all Hondurans.

-- called for the lifting of all bilateral and multilateral sanctions slapped on Honduras after the June coup d' etat.

Below in Spanish official presidential document issued hours ago in Santo Domingo, where gorilobo and the former presidential candidates met with Fernández.

Lobo Promises Zelaya Safe Conduct
President-elect Porfirio Lobo Sosa promised today that once inaugurated, he would sign a safe conduct that allowed Manuel Zelaya, his family, and close followers still inside the Brazilian embassy could journey to the Dominican Republic as "distinguished guests", reports El Universal of Mexico. Lobo Sosa and Dominican President Leonel Fernandez signed an accord today agreeing to the safe conduct for Zelaya.

The Honduran online paper, Processo Digital published the full text of the accord. In it Lobo Sosa agrees to form a unity government of national reconciliation, made up of members of the political parties; he agrees to immediately upon taking office sign a safe conduct for Zelaya and his family so that they might have freedom of movement; he agrees to respect human rights and allow Hondurans to enjoy public liberty; and he agrees to allow Zelaya, his family, and inner circle of followers to leave for the Dominican Republic as guests of that country. In exchange, the Dominican Republic's President, Leonel Fernandez, promises to lobby for the removal of sanctions against Honduras placed by the international community and to work to normalize relations with Honduras.

Update 2:00 pm PDT: When asked about it moments ago on Radio Globo, Rasel Tomé said he and President Zelaya knew nothing about the agreement.

4. Aside from everything else,
DR doesn't seem to be the most stable place in the world to me right now.

Massive numbers of Haitian refugees are streaming east, the country's airports are heavily loaded, the infrastructure is being heavily loaded, the whole island is swarming with military, government officials, intel, and who knows what else.

5. Zelaya's familiy has lived in that one location for hundreds of years.
What a shame scum like these gorilettis can drive him away from his ancestral home.

The safe passage seems useful, but we all know murderous right-wingers can ALWAYS send their assassins anywhere on the planet, and have over and over in the past, even on the streets of Washington, D.C. in broad daylight.

Thanks for breaking this story here, rabs. Love the new "leader's" name, Gorilobo!

10. Zelaya to Leave Honduras Next Week - Adviser
Zelaya to Leave Honduras Next Week - Adviser
By REUTERS
Published: January 21, 2010

TEGUCIGALPA (Reuters) - Ousted Honduran President Manuel Zelaya will end his four-month refuge in the Brazilian embassy and leave the country next week, when his term would have ended, his closest adviser said on Thursday.

Zelaya, a leftist who was ousted in a coup on June 28, accepted an agreement backed by the government of the Dominican Republic to travel to the Caribbean country, close Zelaya aide Rasel Tome told Radio Globo radio.

Tome said Zelaya would remain politically active, but leaving the country effectively ends his career as a meaningful leader in Honduras.

"On January 27 there is a way out ... The exit will not be a permanent exit, we will come back to the country to continue in these processes with the Honduran people," Tome said.

11. Z confirms he will leave Honduras on Jan. 27 (next Wednesday)

Right after Lobo is inaugurated.

He told Radio Globo today that he plans to return to Honduras to defend himself against the charges the golpistas leveled against him.

But he said it would not be immediately so as not to provoke another crisis and not until there were "honest judges." Not the current "executioners" (verdugos) who Z said have already convicted him.

Z, his family and close circle of friends will be escorted from the Brazilian Embassy to the airport by Dominican President Fernández, foreign diplomats and human rights leaders. Fernández will be in Teguz to attend the inauguration, but his main mission appears to get Z. out.

Once in the Dominican Republic, he will be free to travel to any country he chooses, according to the story by Telesur.
