Venezuela: Warning on Amazon Region

Caracas, Mar 27 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan lawmakers warned on Thursday of the current presence of US, European and Asian transnationals in the Amazonian region, which is reflected in the worsening of the important nature reserve.

Deputy Eddy Gomez, who is vice president of the international Amazonian Parliament, recalled that the Amazon boasts 20 percent of the world's drinking water reserves and nearly 30 percent of the whole planet's biodiversity.

However, the actions taken by foreign companies have caused deforestation of over 40 percent of the area, while the cutting and burning of trees are responsible for 30 percent of the emissions of carbon dioxide worldwide.

Gomez also denounced adverse effects caused by pseudo-religious penetration and smuggling, which have a negative impact on climate change.

His situation demands joint action by legislative groups, including the Amazonian, Latin American (PARLATINO), Andean and Indigenous parliaments.

These policies stem from the presence of substantial volumes of strategic minerals, including uranium, which focus the interest of big US and European companies.
