Lula da Silva declines to visit the grave of Zionism founder
Posted on 16 March 2010.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has refused to visit the grave of Theodor Herzl, the founder of modern Zionism.

In response to the rebuff, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman decided to boycott the Brazilian president’s visit.

On Monday, Lieberman also criticized Lula’s close ties with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his plan to visit Tehran in the near future.

Lula described his Middle East tour, which includes scheduled visits to the occupied West Bank and Jordan, as “a mission of peace.”

“We are very proud that we can say Latin America and the Caribbean have no nuclear weapons or weapons of mass destruction… We would like to serve as an example for other regions of the world,” he added.

1. Good for him, Lieberman is a Jewish version of Hitler
I read sections of "Altneuland" by Hertzl, it's revolting. As for Lieberman, the man is a criminal, under normal circumstances he should be indicted by the International Criminal Court, tried, and would likely be convicted.

3. He's not some guy
Lieberman wanted the symbolic gesture, that Zionism was blessed by Brazil. Problem with Zionism as practiced by Lieberman is the need to ethnically cleanse the Palestinians, who happened to inhabit the land before the Zionists (self designated Jewish settlers given the right by their God, according to their religious beliefs, to invade the land and if necessary exterminate those who inhabited it). It gets really ugly when you research it, and Lieberman, a Russian- born Jew, is as extreme as they come.

4. Bad for him
Hi, Naaman

Lula had no problem to visit and bow in front of the grave of Yasser Arafat today. Does your statement still hold?
Unlike Arafat, Herzl has never ordered any militants to harm any people. He never tried to perform a political coup-d-etat. Herzl was a foreseer, not a head of military. And unlike Arafat, he spent his life in a civilian outfit. He was a visionary.

So, why boycott his grave and bow in front of Arafat's?

5. Maybe because Arafat was resisting Zionist invasion?
There's a slight difference, you see. Zionists can be considered the invaders. People like Arafat are the resistance to Zionist invasion. I know in the USA and in Israel the narrative is somewhat changed, to make the Zionists the ones who happen to be defending themselves, and the Palestinian resistance the "evil ones".

I use a more balanced reference point, which uses a very simple fact: The Palestinian population was the majority in Palestine in the 1940's, and prior to that, for a long period of time. The Jewish diaspora used its financial and military power to invade the land, and began a displacement process while at the same time advocating an undemocratic process whereby the land would be partiioned according to ethnic and/or religious classification. The Zionists also introduced terrorism into the area, when they blew up the King David hotel and killed scores of innocent people. I'm also familiar with the terrorism introduced into the area by the Irgun, the Stern Gang, and others whose leaders eventually became "respected Israeli leaders". So Arafat was a terrorist? So were the jewish leaders, they were terrorists, and some of what goes on today in Israel can be considered state sponsored terrorism and crimes against humanity - let us remember the Rachel Correy case as just one small example of what goes on.

Returning to the 1940's, the introduction of the idea that Jewish settlers could have sovereign rights over a divided land was in clear violation of democratic principles, which dictated that a referendum of all the persons living on the territories be given the right to choose (and evidently a non-Jewish majority wasn't about to vote for partitioning the land into cantons according to religious/ethnic preference). Thus, although I am not a religious person, nor personally involved in this conflict, I happen to believe Zionism is indeed one of the most diseased political movements ever created by man. It is racist, xenophobic, and justifies itself using a twisted and invented version of reality. And this is why I would condemn anybody who visits the grave of the intellectual creator of Zionism, Theodr Hertzl. He should sit on a pantheon with Adolf Hitler, Torquemada, the Argentinian military junta, and others of a similar nature.

By the way, I'm fully aware of the sophistries used to justify Israeli abuses. They don't work with me, I attended a Jewish school, and I graduated at the top of the class. In me, you are running into the proverbial buzzsaw.
