DPA Colombian senator proposes fining unfaithful partners

Bogota - A Colombian senator is proposing a 4,400-dollar fine for unfaithful husbands and wives, local media reported Tuesday. Senator Edgar Espindola said the project seeks to impose fines to people who violate "legally-constituted" marriages to protect children of such marriages.
The legislator, a member of the ruling-coalition, thinks the plan would give the country an extra tool to protect the family.
"It is worrying for the country to see how family disintegration increases by the day, mainly affecting children, teenagers and young people who for reasons beyond their own will have to live with just one of their parents, and sometimes even alone," Espindola told the radio station Caracol.
The senator said the proposal is based on an article in the Colombian constitution that states that children have the right to a family and the right not to be separated from their families.
