OAS' Insulza: There is no evidence of Venezuelan support to terrorist
Caracas, Thursday April 10 , 2008

There is no evidence showing that Venezuela is supporting terrorist groups, Thursday said Secretary-General of the Organization of American States (OAS) José Miguel Insulza during a hearing in the US Congress where Republican legislators questioned Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez's government and the Ecuadorian administration.

The hearing of the House Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere analyzed the crisis between Ecuador and Colombia stemming from a Colombian military operation in Ecuadorian territory against the rebel Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC) last March 1.

Representative Connie Mack (FL) interrupted Insulza to ask him about Venezuela and the FARC guerrilla, an organization the US views as a terrorist group, reported AFP.

"Do you mean if Venezuela is supporting terrorist groups? I do not think so" replied Insulza, who added that there are no proofs of that.

"There are no evidences (of this), and no country in the organization, including the US, has submitted proofs of that to OAS," he said.
