Distorted account of Morales speech distracts from fundamental issue of climate change
A few national and international media outlets, instead of carrying out analysis and reports on the fundamental challenge of climate change, decided to distract the public with a distorted and inaccurate account of a speech by President Morales.

Various media reports are misinforming the public, saying that Morales has linked eating chicken with homosexuality. In his exact words, Morales said that “chicken that we are eating is full of feminine hormones, which is why men who eat this chicken have changes in their being as men. I have read some information that isn’t from me, asking about a daughter of one and a half years who already had breasts..”

Morales said nothing about sexuality, only that eating meat with artificial hormones is producing changes in our body. This is a perspective supported by some scientists, and reflected in European Union policy which bans the use of certain hormones in food. The British pharmaceutical specialist and representative on the Veterinary Products Committee, John Verall BDA said in 2008 that “it is very clear that much smaller quantities of sexual hormones in our food than we previously thought is causing abnormalities in the genitals of boys premature puberty in girls and increasing the risk of cancer later in life.”

In addition to these distortions, the coverage given to this issue demonstrates that the media is not treating the climate crisis with sufficient seriousness. During the whole conference, there have been debates on fundamental issues such as adaptation to climate change, testimonies of communities that are already suffering climate change, and the proposals of concrete actions such as the formation of a Climate Justice Tribunal. The fact that a few media outlets have chosen instead to manipulate the public is a poor reflection of the state of some media who should be taking responsibility for informing the public about a crisis that will affect us all.

1. this doesnt help
I like Morales. He said something dumb. Being also psycho-religious about him to the point that you can't admit his flaws is not in any way productive.

2. Very glad to see your material. Coming back to read it more closely later today.
This is so typical of what we've been dealing with in the corporate media isn't it?

As we have heard the people in Russia learned long ago, we must read our own packaged "news" by trying to guess what REALLY happened for ourselves, taking NOTHING at face value from them. We have watched the way they attempt to mold public perception long enough to realize there's little we get which is honest.

The tricks they're using to misrepresent Morales are totally familiar. They attempt to present the target as ignorant, and foolish, and at some point they move on to crazy. After that they start portraying him as dangerous, and then they start linking him to more leaders they have already designated as "enemies."

They are filthy, dishonest players. It's hard to believe anyone would want to live a life as a professional liar. They hijack and pervert the very meaning of journalism. They are mass communicators, all right. What they communicate, after you realize it, is their contempt for anyone who hopes for a cleaner, more decent world.

6. Misrepresenting Morales
Just quote him verbatim - eating chickens makes you change. If you extrapolate it, you could say if a man eats too much chicken, he'll get an urge to paint his nails red and his breasts may grow. :-)

5. Well, this is what Evo said for real
"“chicken that we are eating is full of feminine hormones, which is why men who eat this chicken have changes in their being as men."

There's no need to distort it. It's funny as heck. :7

7. The corpo-fascist media did the same thing to Chavez on anti-semitism--
false reporting of what he said, so wrong and distorted that the Jewish community in Venezuela came to his defense and publicly contradicted these false reports.

The irony is that NO ONE HAS DONE MORE FOR EQUAL RIGHTS and non-racist, non-sexist policies in Latin America than Chavez and Morales.

I think it was George Orwell who called it "the Big Lie": Say the OPPOSITE OF THE TRUTH loud enough and often enough and it BECOMES the "truth"--that is, the "Alice in Wonderland" 'truth' that Chavez, Morales and other Bolivarians are fascist homophobes, anti-semites, loony. It boggles the mind how the "Big Lies" about these leaders get promoted by people who call themselves 'journalists.'

9. It's funniest when the same people who agitate against gays also accuse
leftist leaders of being anti-gay when they think they can pull it off. The radical reactionaries in Miami have done this for years.

Nothing to lose when they're willing to do anything to try to slander leftists. Their honor went out the window long ago.

12. Well, I happen to eat a lot of chicken
So I guess I'm gay, or headed that way. I think Morales was trying to win the poultry vote, that's all.
