After Hugo Chavez put himself in charge of the country's coffee sector last year, for the first extended period of time in the country's history, Venezuela did not produce enough of the little red berry to satisfy domestic demand. It has now become a coffee importer and is facing serious shortages

I understand that the author of this piece is a right-winger. So the question is, is this true? Is coffee production down since Chavez took over? What does this portend, if anything, for other nationalized industries?

There have been spot coffee shortages, that's all I know. So we added coffee to the goodies we hide at home. But we REALLY miss fresh milk, it's really hard to find.

2. Found coffee today

I think the coffee shortage is one of those here now, then gone affairs. We just have to be patient. Besides, coffee is bad for your helth. We should be happy to replace it with coca imported from Bolivia, it's endorsed by Evo, and it doesn't make you lose your manly powers like chicken does.
