Carlos the Jackal: No party in Venezuela to support the revolution
Venezuelan terrorist Ilich Ramírez Sánchez, who is serving a life term in France for a triple murder in París in 1975, said on Friday that in his country "just one bullet would be enough to topple the revolution."

"Carlos", a legend of the 70's for carrying out commando operations in Europe and Africa, argued that "if someone kills Chávez, the government will be toppled because there is no party in power."

"He is alive, thanks to Fidel and Raúl (Castro) and thanks to Ramiro Valdés," Carlos said when questioned about the security of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, AFP reported.

"Just one bullet would be enough to topple the revolution in Venezuela because the country would not resist the death of Chávez," Ramírez said.

1. Doesn't say much for the Revolution, does it?
If a revolution is so linked to a single individual, then it survives by force of charisma and caudillismo, and not because it is a well run and organized movement, right?

Maybe the Jackal is right, this "revolution" is no such thing, because the people who surround Chavez are in it for the money and power, and are disorganized and lack structure, discipline, and a common goal. I suspect many of them don't really care much for the country as such.

Does this mean the Jackal is criticizing Chavez because there's no real party in power? Power is too concentrated at the top? What do you guys think?

2. I don't understand why I am supposed to be concerned with what this asshole thinks.

Are the morons at El Universal really so disturbed that they think this asshole has credibility about anything at all?

3. Don't they have another coup they can start promoting?
Surely there's something they can do to entertain themselves beyond their 24/7 obsession with cranking out anti-Chavez drek.

5. Well, I mean, what does Charlie Manson think? What about Unabomber?
Edited on Mon May-17-10 10:05 PM by bemildred
This rises above the usual level of cluelessness.

7. Those two aren't from Venezuela, ans rhey aren't named V,I.
Carlos has his communist credentials, you know. So he's more like the FARC leader, a violent believer in terrorism, to spread communism.

8. So I'm supposed to care what he thinks because he's a communist?
Is that your theory? Commies are especially relevant observers of current events?

4. The Jackal does have his groupies
Besides, it sells papers, doesn't it? I do think the Jackal is starting to think Chavez is a failure.

12. Didn't Chavez vindicated him? Oh yes, he even said he was a "revolutionary fighter"
"He's a revolutionary fighter and I vindicate him. I don't care of what they say in Europe"

13. Well, I did say he had his groupies, didn't I?
I was wondering, though, if the Jackal may not have been criticizing Chavez...it's hard to get these ultra left wing English only DU participants to have a serious conversation about Venezuela because so many of them can't listen to Chavez in Spanish.

So, I so believe some serious communists are starting to think Chavez is goofing too much.

9. In Venezuela we've been talking a lot about that subject
Who would replace Chavez? Who would fit as a successor?

But I imagine you have little to say on that.

10. Good guess. I think the successor to Chavez should be elected.
That's about it.
