Colombian drug lord is arrested in Venezuela
CARACAS, Friday September 17, 2010
Colombian drug lord is arrested in Venezuela

Venezuelan Minister of the Interior and Justice Tareck El Aissami has announced the capture of Jaime Alberto Marín aka Beto Marin, leader of Colombia's Norte del Valle drug cartel, who had a red notice issued by the International Police (Interpol).

The information was disclosed in a message posted on the minister's Twitter account (@TareckPSUV). El Aissami said that the arrest of the Colombian citizen is another big blow to international drug trafficking. He did not mention the place where the arrest took place.

The number of dangerous kingpins and members of different drug trafficking organizations requested by Interpol and arrested in Venezuela until September 2010 amounts to 16 criminals so far this year, the state-run news agency AVN reported.

1. Meantime, Obama says Venezuela ...
Edited on Fri Sep-17-10 05:30 PM by rabs

... is NOT cooperating in the fight against illegal drugs.

(White House pours a little more gasoline on the embers, Chavez responds.)

And Larry Palmer can look for a posting in Togo or Uzbekistan or some place like that.
---------------------
"We wouldn't allow him to enter Venezuelan territory," Chavez said, adding that if Washington decides not to send an ambassador, that is the U.S. government's prerogative.

"If they decide to throw out our ambassador, let them throw him out. That's their problem. It isn't our problem," Chavez said.

-----------------------------

From the AP today;

President Hugo Chavez insisted on Friday that he won't accept the U.S. government's nominee for ambassador and condemned President Barack Obama's designation of Venezuela as a country failing in counter-drug efforts.

Chavez dismissed the White House's criticism of Venezuela on drugs, calling it a "new attack by the Yankee empire."

Obama, in a memorandum released Thursday, named Venezuela along with Bolivia and Myanmar as "countries that have failed demonstrably during the previous 12 months to adhere to their obligations under international counternarcotics agreements."

In response, Chavez lashed out at the Obama administration, calling it "an irresponsible government, a murderous government, a coup-mongering government." Chavez has long said the U.S. uses the drug issue against him for political reasons, saying Venezuela is making significant efforts to stem the flow of Colombian cocaine.

2. Tidbits from Chavez's speech left out by the AP reporter

and that readers of the article in English around the world will never see.

-------------------------------

“El Gobierno yanqui publicó anoche (jueves), tarde, de forma intempestiva, el informe que ellos de manera unilateral hacen todos los años certificando países. Quién le dio a ellos ese derecho”,

("The yankee government late last night (Thursday) published at an inopportune time the report they do unilaterally every year certifying nations. Who gave them that right?"

(Chavez: If there were an objective agency capable of issuing judgements against other nations and publishing a list, the government of the United States should be first on that list for its violations of the law, facilitating and abetting terrorist actions and narco-trafficking.)

“Ese sería el primero en la lista. Ellos colocan a los países que les da la gana”, enfatizó el Presidente y calificó al Gobierno que dirige Barack Obama como "irresponsable, golpista y asesino".

"It (United States} would be first on the list. (The United States) places nations at its whim." Chavez categorized Obama's government as "irresponsible, (backer of) coups and assassin."

(I imagine that at this moment (Venezuelan opposition) bourgeois television and cable channels are all excited. Don't be surprised if in the next few days they come out accusing Venezuela of this and that. We are in a global struggle. We, on Sept. 26, will again defeat the yankee empire."
