Bolivian gov't ratifies presidential reelection as constitutional
12:49, September 22, 2010

The Bolivian government said Tuesday that it is constitutional for President Evo Morales and Vice President Alvaro Garcia Linera to run for second elections in 2014.

"There is not juridical contradiction to reelect Morales and Garcia, but the possibility will be defined by the people, when the moment arrives," Governmental Coordination Vice Minister Wilfredo Chavez said in a press conference.

Chavez said that the President and Vice President reelection was added to the new Political Constitution of Bolivia, which was approved by a constitutional referendum on January 2009.

Chavez said according to the constitution, the government period is five years and the president and vice president can be reelected "one more time consecutively."
