If you missed it, type (w/o the arrows I put in)--> Rafael Correa <-- into one of the search boxes.

Lots of links (mostly RW and other) being posted there.

You could, of course, just got to Twitter.com and search the same, but Twitpipe streams Tweets in (almost) real time.

7. According to Correa's statements the police was being misled with disinformation reg. the new law.
He is saying that people were reacting to it without having read it.

6. Ecuador 'coup': 50 injured in clashes
Ecuador 'coup': 50 injured in clashes
At least 50 people have been injured and one person is reported to have been killed during clashes between rebel police and supporters of the Ecuadoran president.

Published: 2:44AM BST 01 Oct 2010

"We've treated 50 people in Quito for medical emergencies due to asphyxiation due to tear gas and impacts from pellets and teargas canisters," said Jorge Arteaga, a Red Cross spokesman.

Most of the injured had been involved in clashes outside the hospital where president Rafael Correa is being held.

Mr Arteaga said that injuries were also reported in other Ecuadoran cities where rebel police took to the streets.

Mr Correa was holed up at Quito's National Police Hospital, where he was taken after a tear gas canister exploded near him when he addressed rebellious police at a barracks nearby.

Although the police are surrounding the hospital and preventing him from leaving, Mr Correa told ECTV television that he is still running the country.

"They're not letting me out," Mr Correa said. "They've got all the hospital exits surrounded.

"Obviously, it's a kidnapping, when you kidnap the president," he added.

Mr Correa said he would not negotiate with the officers while he remains a captive.

"I'd rather die," he said.

"While this coercion continues, there's nothing we can talk about, nothing we can agree on. They'd better not even think of me signing anything," the president added.

"The president is governing the nation from the hospital," he said.

"I'm getting out of here as president or feet first, but I'm not going to lose my dignity," he warned.

12. Correa Claims Ecuador Coup Attempt After Scuffling With Police
Correa Claims Ecuador Coup Attempt After Scuffling With Police
By Nathan Gill and Alex Emery - Sep 30, 2010 4:58 PM CT

Ecuador declared a state of emergency as police and soldiers protesting wage cuts blocked roads, shut the airport and roughed up President Rafael Correa.

The president, speaking from a hospital room, said he is the target of a coup attempt, and regional leaders appealed for calm. None of the groups protesting has demanded Correa step down, nor have opposition members called for his ouster.

Correa said security forces pointed guns at him as he tried to calm demonstrators at a police station. He said he was hurt in the scuffle and had to wear a gas mask to escape further harm. Correa, who was in the hospital for treatment of his injuries, said protesters were surrounding the facility and attempting to break into his room.

“Here I am. If they want to kill me, go ahead,” Correa said after protesters hurled a tear-gas canister at him and doused him with water at the police station while burning tires outside the presidential palace. “I won’t back down.”
