Hillary Clintons calls Correa to express support Spanish
but maybe what she really said was "You were lucky this time Rafa." I mean there is no evidence that she didn't.

La secretaria de Estado estadounidense, Hillary Clinton, llamó este viernes al presidente ecuatoriano, Rafael Correa, quien enfrentó la víspera una sublevación de la policía, para manifestarle su apoyo, informó el portavoz del Departamento de Estado, Philip Crowley.

"Esta mañana, la secretaria habló por 10 minutos con el presidente Correa de Ecuador. Ella le expresó su apoyo al presidente y al gobierno ecuatoriano e hizo votos por una rápida y pacífica restauración del orden", dijo Crowley a periodistas.

Estados Unidos deploró el jueves los hechos violentos que mantuvieron en vilo al presidente Correa, quien fue retenido por policías sublevados, que durante la jornada tomaron varios cuarteles y el Congreso, hasta que fue rescatado en un operativo militar.

"El gobierno respondió eficazmente", dijo Crowley, quien saludó las declaraciones de jefes militares en Ecuador que manifestaron su apoyo a Correa.

"Estas son el tipo de acciones necesarias para resolver esto, con una afirmación de los valores democráticos, y eso es lo que queremos para Ecuador", señaló el portavoz.

Durante la llamada, Clinton escuchó de Correa un recuento de los hechos de jueves y ambos acordaron "trabajar juntos para fortalecer las instituciones ecuatorianas y el estado de derecho", subrayó.

1. The DU "Coupies" are our equivalent of the John Birchers
They see the malevolent hand of the US behind every event that occurs in Latin America, just as the Birchers saw commies under their beds.

In any case, Correa's hotheaded remarks only exacerbated the situation. Calling the police a bunch of bandits while meeting with them is not particularly wise.

2. yeah, I tend to believe what was initially reported
confirmed by people within Rafa's own administration that the police were protesting the limitations of benefits. quite irresponsible of them actually
