Syria joins ALBA as guest country

Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad said that on the occasion of his meeting with Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez he signed the protocol of accession of Syria as guest country to the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America, for purposes of further strengthening Syrian relations with South America.

The announcement was made by the Syrian head of state on Thursday in Damascus, the Syrian capital, in a joint press conference with Chávez, on the occasion of the third official visit paid by the Venezuelan president to the Middle East country, state-run news agency AVN reported.
