Nice video of Evo speaking on DemocracyNow! today.
Bolivian President Evo Morales at Cancún Climate Summit: WikiLeaks Cables Reveal "Diplomacy of Empire"

peaking at the U.N. Climate Change Conference, Bolivian President Evo Morales warned against throwing out the Kyoto Protocol, saying such a move could result in ecocide or genocide. Bolivia has become a leading critic of how the climate talks have developed and of last year’s U.S.-backed Copenhagen Accord. At a news conference, Morales also talked about U.S. dispatches on Bolivia unearthed by WikiLeaks and his response to recent criticism from Nobel Prize winner Mario Vargas Llosa.

4. So odd to see unrec's for an outstanding man like Evo Morales.
Says a whole lot about the person who did it. Clearly, there are non-democratic people who post here at a democratic message board.

3. Sure good to hear/see President Morales again. He brought up something not really apparent
until you think it over: there have been 4 coup attempts since DU started operations, only one of them successful, although illegal. For Honduras to get by with it informs the world they CAN overthrow the elections of their people if they want, and continue to get US funding, and a big smooch from the U.S. if they are right-winger racist fascists.

They've been a lot busier than would casually meet the eye, haven't they?

Sure glad these people are watching carefully. It IS their future, by god. Everyone else needs to stay the #### OUT of Latin America.

8. Yeah, if you consider an "election" held under martial law, with John McCain's
"International Republican Institute" as one of the "election monitors," because no reputable election monitoring group in the world would touch it--an election held amidst ON-GOING MURDERS of anti-coup activists--teachers, union leaders and others--by rightwing death squads--to be a valid election. But, judging from your comments thus far at DU, you probably do.

Most of the peoples, leaders and governments of Latin America do NOT recognize that election.

9. nah,
peace patriot, judi, et. al are entirely right about Honduras. (well, except for the oft-repeated lie about the kidnappers plane landing at a US base).

10. Yes indeed he got elected
and reports indicate it was remarkably fair election. What's even more interesting is that the opposition party won the Presidential election.

The resident Chavistas are just unhappy that Hugo's toady Zelaya wasn't able to get away with ignoring the Honduran Supreme Court rulings and using ballot boxes imported from Venezuela to conduct a vote.

Honduras: More Evidence of Election Fraud
Wednesday 02 December 2009

TEGUCIGALPA - Figures manipulation, alterations in ballot boxes and other irregularities were discovered in the electoral process held on Sunday in Honduras under the coup, denounced analysts and press media.

Honduras had an election process marked by abstentionism despite figure manipulation by representatives of the de facto government, when stating that 61 percent of the electors had gone to the polls, stated investigator Ricardo Arturo Salgado.

He said in his visit to Tegicigalpa he was able to verify a very low attendance to polls.

The world should know that this was not a democratic process, added Salgado. He denounced the repressive atmosphere, the militarization and the censure before and after elections.

According to the Electoral Supreme Court about 60 percent of the electorate went to the polls, but the Front against the coup informed that between 65 and 70 percent abstained from voting, the highest figure in the countrys history.

HONDURAN GENERAL ELECTIONS: FINAL REPORT OF NDI'S INTERNATIONAL ELECTION ASSESSMENT MISSION

From this report, the 2009 election was no more problematic than the previous one when Hugo's toady Zelaya was elected.

And the FACT that the opposition party won the presidency doesn't exactly support all the caterwauling about the Honduran election process being compromised or somehow invalid.

<snip>

...“November 29 unfolded in a peaceful and orderly manner,” the NDI report said. However, isolated incidents occurred, such as a violent incident that arose in San Pedro Sula, where security forces dispersed a march against the elections and several participants were wounded or detained.” NDI noted that many aspects of the electoral process were implemented without serious problems, but the Institute also highlighted several technical and logistical problems that should be dealt with for the future....

<snip>

You can read the whole summary article and links to the extensive final report at http://www.ndi.org/node/16060

6. I did an analysis of this item in Morales' answer--re the 4 coup attempts (and the 3 to 1 score
in favor of democracy). It's Comment #7, here (which also has the vid)...

Some of his statements were VERY illuminating.
