Brazilian president calls for prudent Christmas shopping
Brazilian president calls for prudent Christmas shopping
13:51, December 21, 2010

Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva advised Brazilians to be prudent on their Christmas shopping in his weekly radio show aired on Monday.

"January is always a heavier month (as several annual taxes are due at the beginning of the year), so it is important not to lose the sense of responsibility when shopping," the president said, reminding the Brazilians of avoiding getting overly indebted when making their purchases.

The president expressed his satisfaction with the recently-announced unemployment figures, which fell to a record-low of 5.7 percent in November, and said Brazil is currently in a full employment condition.

"Let us spend on the necessary, so that we do not run out of the hope and future of all of us," he said.

1. nice.
good to see a leader who knows the obvious that the population spending like crazy is not a good thing in the long term.

W and Chavez are of course full proponents of the "go into debt to buy chinese junk" economic model.

2. I don't think we should buy anything for Xmas
it's so crass, they made a religious holiday into a shopping spree. I only give donations to charity. I strongly recommend all of you do the same thing. It'll make you feel a lot better. If people hassle you, tell them you got religion and do what Jesus would do. I'm not Christian, but in my case it makes sense to give money to see if I can get it deducted from taxes.
