Ecuadorian president's approval rating hits 73%

More than 73 percent of Ecuadorians approved President Rafael Correa, one of the highest approval ratings since he took office in 2007, an opinion poll said on Monday.

According to the poll conducted by CMS on Dec. 17-22, 73.19 percent of the population considers the president's work as "positive."

The survey is based on interviews of adults in 30,140 homes in urban and rural regions in 24 provinces of the Andean country.

The survey also showed an increase in the credibility of the head of state, which reached 62.86 percent.

"Even if the index is lower than the historical level of 68.22 percent, it continues to be one of the highest credibility ratings in the Americas," said CMS in a statement.

3. Standard CIA coups haven't worked in Ecuador ('10), Bolivia ('08) or Venezuela ('02)

but the one in Honduras succeeded ('09) and many coup protestors, trade unionists, teachers, community activists, human rights workers and others are being murdered by rightwing death squads, as planned, both to maintain a slave labor pool and a rightwing, pro-U.S. government and to retain important Pentagon war assets in Honduras.

As Evo Morales recently said "We are 3 for 1," as to leftist democracies being destroyed by the U.S.

The new solidarity and cooperation in repelling U.S. coups is working better in South America--where the coups have been defeated and the targeted leaders have gotten big boosts in the polls as a result--than in Central America, where leftist governments were more recently elected (in Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras until the coup, and in some small island countries). South Americans have had more time to develop unity--and their organization, UNASUR, for unified action--and are less in thrall to U.S. "free trade for the rich." Central American/Caribbean countries tend to be U.S. client states trying to break free--such as Honduras (where the effort to break free failed before a Washington DC-designed attack) and El Salvador, which is trying to maintain its democracy via caution in relation to its giant Overseer. For instance, one of the Honduran coupsters' action was to withdraw Honduras from ALBA--the Venezuela-organized alternative trade group--and, just after the coup in Honduras, El Salvador then withdrew its intent to join ALBA, no doubt under tremendous pressure from the U.S. The leftist government in El Salvador doesn't want "Honduras" to happen to them.

The U.S., whether Bushite or Obamite, is determined to retain Central America/the Caribbean as its "client region," where our multinational corporate/war profiteer rulers can freely exploit the people and the resources, and our "military-industrial complex" can maintain the corrupt, murderous, failed U.S. "war on drugs" boondoggle, as well as conduct Pentagon war rehearsals from the many war assets that the Pentagon has placed around the region, basically in an arc surrounding Venezuela's northern oil provinces and Caribbean oil coast. This is the U.S. "circle the wagons" region, anchored by its Big Banana, Colombia, to the south, and by Mexico to the north. Colombia is in a state of ruin due to the U.S. "war on drugs" and Mexico is getting there. Ruined countries are more compliant and controllable.

I'd say that next on the U.S. target list is Nicaragua--now sandwiched in between the fascist coup government in Honduras and the newly U.S. militarized Costa Rica. The Reagan/Bush madmen lust to have another go at slaughtering Nicaraguans and destroying their democracy--and now they have the same footstool from which they launched their death squads at the Nicaraguan people last time--Honduras. The Puke/Diebold Congress are already agitating for this and other attacks on leftist democracies, likely in preparation for the Bushwhack they expect to be Diebolded into the White House in 2012. The general regional U.S. plan is probably to pick off more of the Chavez government's allies in the Central America/Caribbean region--as they did Honduras--and, if they can't find the way to fiddle Venezuela's elections in 2012, go back to Plan A for Venezuela--an incursion from Colombia.

I don't have as much hope that Latin Americans can defeat these U.S. plans in the U.S. "circle the wagons" region as I do for South America. But then, I have been astonished at what has happened in South America, especially, and in Latin America, generally, since the Chavez government was elected in Venezuela in 2000. I never thought I would live to see the day that there are leftist governments in Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Paraguay (!), Uruguay, Chile (until recently), Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras (until the coup). It has been an amazing political revolution. So I am not going to underestimate the people in the Central American/Caribbean region, as to their firmly establishing democracy and independence and joining together for mutual benefit and to repel U.S. interference. The U.S. has NOTHING going for it except bullying and bludgeon power. And you'd think that our rulers would have learned the lesson of 1776 about Americans who don't want to be colonies of an exploitative empire. But that is the dynamic of this situation--servitude vs freedom, with the U.S. on the wrong side. I wouldn't bet against the "colonies."
