Chile recognizes Palestinian State
Chile recognizes Palestinian State
10:05, January 07, 2011

Chilean President Sebastian Pinera on Thursday ratified his support to the Palestinian State during a ceremony hosted in La Moneda Palace.

Senate President Jose Pizarro said that during the ceremony Pinera and leaders of the main political parties "recognize the State of Palestine."

Two days ago the Senate unanimously approved a resolution calling on Pinera to recognize as soon as possible the existence of Palestine as a full, free and sovereign state.

Last week, Pinera met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. The Chilean government is making arrangements for Pinera to visit Israel and Palestine in March 2011.
