Russia, Chile Scrap Visa Requirements
Russia, Chile Scrap Visa Requirements
Tuesday January 18, 2011 04:04:00 EST

(RTTNews) - Tourists of Russia and Chile will no more require a visa for a short-term visit of the other country, as an agreement to this effect comes into force on Tuesday.

Under the visa-free short-term tourist travel agreement signed between the two countries in September last year, their citizens are eligible for entry, exit, transit or stay on the territory of the other country for up to 90 days, if the visit is for tourism.

Russian and Chilean tourists can avail this facility within each 180-day period from the first entry.

Those who travel to start a business, or to seek an employment in these countries are not privileged by the visa-waiver scheme. However, those who want to stay for more than 90 days will be required to obtain a visa, irrespective of the purpose of their visit.

Chile, credited for democratic reforms and sound economic policies, is forging closer links with Russia in line with ten other Latin American countries that have already scrapped visa requirements for Russian citizens. They are: Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, Colombia, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Argentina, Brazil, Guatemala and Nicaragua.
