CARACAS, Venezuela - Venezuela's ruling party is pledging to push through reforms that would allow President Hugo Chavez to run for re-election indefinitely.

Venezuelan voters already have rejected proposed constitutional changes that would have lifted limits on re-election, greatly expanded the president's powers and pushed the economy toward socialism.

Willian Lara is a leader of the Venezuelan United Socialist Party. He said Tuesday the party would propose organizing another referendum to ask voters if they think Chavez should be able to seek re-election when his current term ends in 2012.

Chavez was first elected in 1998. He has suggested that a referendum could be held in 2010 to ask Venezuelans whether they support an amendment to end presidential term limits.
