Ernesto Che Guevara In Ireland -1964
Edited on Mon Mar-07-11 07:05 AM by dipsydoodle
Found this by accident. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBYUOOEHbJw&feature=related

and I was amused by the note posted :

"Che was the ultimate bad-ass! You know he spoke and understood English perfectly well right? He's just sitting back, laughing at the male reporter while flirting with the female reporter. Why can't the United States ever have a Congressman who is as cool as Che was? Viva La Revolucion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

So tragic he was dead 3 years later - 39 years old and 6 months or so younger than my own son.

3. It's remarkable that two men that brilliant
could work together for any length of time at all. But they were also both incredibly adept socially -- which is even more remarkable.

lol

4. Amazing. I've never seen anything like it! I wonder if they ever learned he KNEW English?
That would have given them something to ponder!

First time I've ever seen him at close range in any interview. Very impressive personal presence! Whooo!

7. I don't know how stereotypes were back then but these days people just assume that.
Latinos are assumed to know English and that they pretend, in my experience. I worked with a guy for 2 months and he pretended he didn't know English the entire time. Finally I laughed when he made a joke to his Spanish compatriots and accidentally let out that I knew what they were talking about the entire time we worked together. To get back at me he responded in clear English, as a sort of "Ha, you thought you had me, well I had you!" I never told him I didn't know Spanish though, but he made it clear regularly that he spoke no English. I didn't ponder it too much, I didn't gossip all day long with my friends assuming the Spanish speakers couldn't understand me, unlike that guy.

I think it would be bad form to not have a translator available to a non-English speaker for an interview, I know that some Japanese people who do speak English would prefer to have a translator instead of speaking themselves, from my experience in the games industry. And you don't just walk up to them and say "speak my language damnit!"
