Chileans Welcome Obama But Reject Nuclear Energy Pact
http://www.santiagotimes.cl/news/environmental/21023-chileans-welcome-obama-but-reject-nuclear-energy-pact

U.S.President Barack Obama’s arrival in Chile Monday caused quite a stir. Entire sections of downtown Santiago were shut down, as eager Chileans waited for hours attempting to catch a glimpse of the famed President arriving at the La Moneda presidential palace.
Unfortunately, most Chileans missed out on the opportunity.

Unlike Obama’s well-covered visit to a favela during his stay in Brazil, the U.S. leader is spending virtually his entire time in Chile behind closed doors.

Despite Castillo’s belief, the majority of Chileans seem to have a positive opinion regarding the U.S. President. The BBC cited that 81 percent of Chileans have a “good” or “very good” opinion of the U.S., a number that has increased exponentially compared to Chile’s view of the U.S. while George W. Bush was in office.

Most Chileans, including Daniela Rodriguez, seemed excited about the visit, “Obama is Obama.” She told the Santiago Times, “He’s popular all over the world, everyone knows who he is. I still don’t fully understand why he has chosen Chile, but I’m happy that he’s here.”
