Colombia takes over UN Security Council presidency for April
08:44, April 02, 2011

Colombia on Friday took over the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council for April.

Nestor Osorio, Colombian UN ambassador, took over the rotating Council presidency from Li Baodong, the Chinese permanent representative to the United Nations, who held the Council presidency for March.

Osorio is expected to brief reporters Monday on the Security Council's program of work for this month.

This is the first time that Colombia has held the Security Council presidency in the course of its current two-year term on the 15-nation Council. Colombia was elected by the UN General Assembly to sit on the Council from 2011 to 2013.
