Ecuador to oust US ambassador over WikiLeaks spat. Who's next?

WikiLeaks has claimed its second diplomatic victim in Latin America, with Ecuador expelling its US ambassador over her comments in a leaked cable, straining bilateral relations and casting a shadow over US efforts in the region.

The ouster of Ambassador Heather Hodges follows the resignation last month of the US ambassador to Mexico after another WikiLeaks cable revealed him portraying Mexican security forces as deeply corrupt and uncoordinated.

Ambassadorial relations have also been severed in recent years in Venezuela and in Bolivia, where Drug Enforcement Agency officials were also expelled. But the chance for confrontation has only grown amid secret-spilling website WikiLeaks' dissemination of more than 250,000 confidential US diplomatic cables.

While a falling domino affect on US ambassadors is unexpected, analysts say that rough patches in bilateral relations across the region could lie ahead.

He was talking about the vastly changed political landscape of Latin America, where the leftist democracy movement has been so successful, and where it has created a new LATIN AMERICAN (as opposed to "Washington") CONSENSUS--regarding cooperation and solidarity among Latin American countries, their leaders and their peoples. Latin America is ASSERTING democracy, social justice and peace against a wall of fascism, militarism, war profiteering and corporate rape, asserted by the U.S. government. And this means "rough patches," indeed, for U.S. bad intentions in Latin America.

The Christian Science Muddle is clueless about this democracy revolution, and what is worse, their view is cautious, "liberal"-sounding, CIA drivel (how the CIA "frames" things to get them into journals with a "liberal" rep). I canceled my subscription because of it (about five years ago). It is corpo-fascist propaganda dressed up in a tuxedo going to the opera.

And they are at their snotty, lame-brained, fake-liberal worst on Latin America.

I just heard someone on the PBS News Hour say that the UN was "providing military services" to Haiti.

What a mendacious way of describing a military occupation. And that was PBS!
