uribe calls for a protest march to defend his criminal cronies

alvarito tweeted a call for a protest march in Bogota on May 4.

He is calling on uribistas to protest the recent arrests of former high-ranking officials in the Ministry of Agriculture under his administration that ended in August of 2010.

His tweet today:

“Gran Marcha en rechazo a la injusticia en caso AIS. Asistamos todos. 4 de mayo, 12 pm en la Fiscalía Gral de la Nación!”, planteó el ex jefe del Estado en su cuenta de la red social twitter.

"Great march to reject the injustice in the AIS case. All show up. May 4, 12 pm at the national Attorney General (headquarters in Bogota), " proposed the ex-head of State in his twitter site.

----------------

The investigation of the AIS scandal is getting closer and closer to alvarito's former Minister of Agriculture, Andrés Felipe Arias, aka as "Little Uribe." Arias was alvarito's choice to succeed him as president but the AIS scandal brought that to a sudden stop.

The AIS officials were found to have given millions to wealthy land and plantation owners, and even to a couple of former Colombian beauty queens. The money allegedly was used to try to have alvarito re-re-elected for a third term, but the Consitutional Court threw that out.

The millions given to the uribistas by law were to have used to help campesinos and small farmers.

I suspect that alvarito is worried that the scandal could land in his lap, hence this bizarre call for a protest march to defend criminals in his administration.

As a couple of Colombian commenters on the story said, if there is a protest march, the Colombian police could round up all of alvarito's criminals in one fell swoop.

1. This is amazing. Trying to urge the people who's tax money he used to pleasure his supporters
to show outrage because the government is forced to at least look as if it's trying to clean up the criminal excesses of his Presidency.

The credibility in the future of the current government will depend on at least putting on a damned good show of trying to clean out the rot.

Sure hope the only ones who turn out are those bloated millionaire/billionaire Colombian cohorts of his, and a few bedraggled, grouchy beauty queens in formals, sashes, and tiaras.

A short speech from a beauty queen who would probably be available to march in the Uribe parade, if he needs her help:

2. now, alvarito picks a fight with the leader of the Catholic Church

alvarito seem to be losing it.

alvarito tells Catholic Church leader to stay out of politics.

El Tiempo today reports an an added ingredient to the passion of this Holy Week, the fight that alvarito has picked with the maximum leader of the Catholic Church, Mon. Ruben Salazar.

In a tweet today, alvarito accused Salazar of "preferring political passion before setting the example as a prelate" and of spreading "disinformation."

alvarito attacked after Mons. Salazar told a news show that uribito "should respect" the decisions of the courts in the AIS scandal.

Salazar challenged alvarito to be at the head of the protest march on May 4, which, according to El Tiempo, has been CANCELED.

10. To be fair,
isn't that something we all agree on, that the catholic church should stay out of politics? I think I recall just recently we were all on the side of the government telling the church to butt out in either bolivia or ecuador, I forget which one.

6. alvarito is a widower

after eight years of running the show, he is a widower from power.

So he takes to tweeting, trying to meddle in the Santos administration. Almost every day alvarito has something to criticize, as if his opinion now counts.

The problem also lies with the Bogota media, which gives big headlines to whatever alvarito says. If the media ignored him, he would wither on the vine.

Can you imagine dubya tweeting about obama? But then dubya probably is too dumb to know how to work twitter.

Uribe and Catholic church face off over subsidy scandal

Former President Alvaro Uribe and a member of the Catholic church have exchanged criticisms of one another over the proposed march against the Prosecutor General for her handling of the Agro Ingreso Seguro (AIS) scandal investigation.

The now cancelled march was originally due to take place on May 4 outside of the Office of the Prosecutor General in order to, as Uribe stated via his Twitter account, "protest the injustice in the AIS case."

Bishop Ruben Salazar commented in reference to Uribe's tweet by stating, "It is an opinion of ex-President Uribe but we, as citizens, must follow what justice says and when justice has found significant merit to take an official to prison, one must respect what justice says," RCN Radio reported.

Uribe immediately issued an angry response, again via Twitter, with the message, "His Eminence Ruben Salazar should proceed as a bishop and not by political passion or disinformation."

12. If Jesus were Colombian

alvarito (or someone very close to him) posted an offensive tweet about Santos. The tweet was removed, but not before it became public.

Today, alvarito's eldest son Tomas denied his poppa had written the tweet and an investigation is under way to discover who did.

The tweet in question was:

Pero el trino que más causó polémica fue "#sijesusfueracolombiano judas no podría ser otro que @JuanManSantos" que luego fue borrado de la línea de tiempo de la cuenta de Twitter del exmandatario.

"If Jesus were Colombian, Judas could be none other than JuanManSantos."

---------------------

Yep, the hardcore uribistas are really going after Santos, who is now considered a traitor to the cause. Would not be surprising if some "sicario" (hitman) tried something very rash.

13. The little fella is delusional, isn't he? My God. In what alternative universe could he be compared
to Jesus Christ, anyway?

I've never heard that the Christ person was caught up in massacres of helpless people, or was power mad, have you?

Hmmmmm. Strange inner workings inside that little feverish dome.

We have learned over the years the criminal element goes all the way to the top, as it did when Uribe was in charge, and so many of his cabinet, his DAS, his own family were "connected". Why wouldn't it be natural to assume the new President's own security could be tainted, as well?

Who would want to be in his shoes these days, after the little Prince declared war on him?

What a dirty shame.

Live by the sword, etc.?

Would it open investigation Uribe can't afford if JuanMa is murdered? Uribe should have been investigated so many years ago, it does look as if he's Teflon coated.

Thanks, rabs. This is a real situation, isn't it? The little guy needs to be slapped down, has the heart of a spiteful spoiled brat.
