Brazilian Foreign Minister Antonio Patriota on Wednesday criticized developed countries for their human rights records.
"The debate on human rights is polarized between north and south, as if only developed countries had something to teach developing countries. It is a mistaken conception, because the worst abuses were committed by developed countries," Patriota told the Brazilian Senate.
Patriota said all countries should re-examine their own human rights practices.
Meanwhile, Patriota expressed his concern over the escalation of violence in Syria, where the Brazilian community is large.
