Morales Calls for an end to CIA Operations in Bolivia

LA PAZ -- President Evo Morales wants the CIA to suspend its activities in Bolivia, state television reported here.

"We're ... going after the CIA," Morales said at a ceremony held Tuesday night in Tiraque, a city in the central province of Cochabamba, where he outlined the actions of his government against U.S. institutions in "defense of the sovereignty, dignity and pride of Bolivians."

As Morales said there, first he expelled U.S. Ambassador Philip Goldberg, who was accused by La Paz of conspiring against the Bolivian government, and then the U.S. Agency for International Development, or USAID, and 12 days ago he suspended the local activity of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, or DEA.

DEA officials have three months to leave Bolivia, according to what several Cabinet ministers have said.
