PRES. MORALES TO SPEAK IN DC TUES. NITE AT AMERICAN UNIVERSITY
Yes, it's true! For those of you in the DC area you can get more details at the AU website below. For everyone else, it's possible CSPAN could carry it live, or if they do carry it probably will be shown a day or two after.

1. Thanks for the heads up. Will you be able to go, yourself?
Hope he'll get a great turnout. He does have a ton of admirers here.

That loathesome Rick Sanchez, afternoon CNN anchor planned to interview Morales today, had him down for an interview, started his spiel about how there's a leftist movement sweeping South America, yadda yadda yadda, I tuned out, and suddenly he howled that he had just gotten the word from Morales' people that they had cancelled the interview.

Sanchez really chewed the scenery over that, imploring other people to tell him why they thought Morales blew off the interview, demanding to know what was it he had said, etc., etc., etc.

It's entirely possible they found out at the last minute this jerk off is one of the South Florida a-hole clan, a real foaming at the mouth reactionary, and decided out of loyalty to the island they didn't want to deal with him. That's my guess.

For anyone who doesn't know the story, which I heard years ago at the old CNN Cuba/US message board, Sanchez actually left a football game one Sunday, drunk, hit a pedestrian, and tore off in his car, went home, while the injured man lay there. He finally called the cops later on from home, where they couldn't prove he had been driving drunk. The man died, if my memory is correct.

I saw some DU'ers discussing this event recently, and one of them said he had gone to a Miami Dolphins game, and a car screeched its brakes and someone yelled, "look out, here comes Rick Sanchez."

So Evo Morales had better things to do with his time than speak with Rick Sanchez, who promptly set up a howl about it.

Hope he'll go back to see John Stewart and do the Daily Show again before leaving.

Thanks for the warning about his speech being televised. It would be wonderful to see it. Wonderful to see him getting applause from some of his many American supporters, finding out he is loved, admired, respected here by decent people.

5. Amy did an extended interview with Evo today but the translation was sort of distracting.
The transcript may be a better way to get his thinking.

(I'm not sure, as a translator, why it was so annoying. It may have just been a production thing.)

What a lot of evil filth he has had to suffer at the hands of people not fit to live. I'm certain he knows it is completely impersonal, that they would treat any other indigenous person just as poorly as they have treated him.

He seems to have a very clear picture of what he's dealing with, doesn't he?

Hoping for the very best for this dear man, and for him to live a very, VERY long, assassination-free, "accident"-free life.

Amy, Juan interview with Evo Morales.

I surely hope Obama will do a few nice things in Bolivia's general direction, after all they have endured at the hands of some true demons in the Bush administration. Glad they've made their stand.

South America wants to handle its own problems. One of their problems has been US-installed death machines.
