We're gonna be fighting over HCR for the next 10 years |

and I hope Obama and other Dem leaders realize that even the people still supporting the bill are doing so mostly because they expect more reform to come in the near future.
I remember Obama saying he wanted to be the last president to have to reform health care. It felt like in that statement is an acceptance that the first bill passed will not accomplish everything that needs to be done and that this will be a continuing issue throughout his presidency.
my feeling is that by the time a lot of the bill kicks in (2013-2014) it will have already been amended numerous times -sometimes through reconciliation- and that this process will continue for possibly decades. I have a feeling that Reid wants to push another bill before 2010 elections and that he would happily champion this if only to save his own seat.
There are going to be big problems with this bill. Problems that will become almost immediately clear as soon as it goes into effect. I have a feeling that Dem leadership is anticipating these problems and realizes that they will have really no choice but to continue to reform the system bill by bill, piece by piece over the coming years or suffer a wipe out at the polls.
But I'm excited to think that once this passes, much of what we need can be added to it later through reconciliation and that ultimately, the Nelsons and Liebermans of the world won't be able to do shit about it.

And in the meantime there will be a whole bunch of folks who now will have access to some form of health care.
The ball is rolling. Finally.

2. How about for the next 20 years. |

I hope the bill is open for revision every two years so we can catch up with Europe. There is no doubt in my mind that it will take 20 to 30 years. It will be two steps forward and one step backward. At least we have started the long march with the first step.

Health Insurance Reform. It's not "Health Care Reform" unless one is spreading propaganda.

4. The more people get used to having a doctor |

The more they'll demand it, consequently health care will be reformed until it gets reformed into single payer. But we have to start somewhere.
