Clinton Edges Out Palin as Most Admired Woman
December 30, 2009

PRINCETON, NJ -- Secretary of State Hillary Clinton continues her reign as the Most Admired Woman in the eyes of Americans, but barely edges out former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin this year, 16% to 15%. Talk show host Oprah Winfrey and first lady Michelle Obama finish third and fourth, with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Queen Elizabeth II, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and poet Maya Angelou -- all regulars on the list -- joined by newcomers German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Elin Woods in the top 10.

Hillary Clinton has now been named Most Admired Woman 14 times since 1993, spanning her career as first lady, New York senator, and now secretary of state. The three times she has not finished first during this time, she earned second place (to Laura Bush in 2001 and to Mother Teresa in 1995 and 1996).

:woohoo:

On the other hand, to have Palin as close second is depressing.

36. This is the 15% that are included in the 30% that always support GOP.
Sarah is the only representative of that group..hence her high number of 15%. The rest of the group is anything but that funddy-conservative-bigotted-RW-minority hating group. So HC is really at the top of a most competitive list.

very bright. How many of them had even heard of Tiger Woods' wife before the end of last month? And now she's made this list? For what? Going after a philandering husband with a golf club? What a joke. As for Palin and Hillary each garnering an almost equal percentage...it's about what you'd expect. Sad to say there are a hard core group of freeper types who do admire the Alaska whack-o. No one ever accused Americans of being intelligent, thoughtful people. Notice that Condi Rice is on that list too. Where the hell is Lady Gaga?

:pals:

A chance? The woman may be the conservatives' darling, but she wasn't ready to be VP, let alone president. She's still far from ready. I guess the right finds her refreshing, I find her annoying. If she was serious about running for president, she should have first completed her term as governor. She then should have started doing the hard work of preparing for the position. Since she appears to be more interested in making money than in hitting the books, I don't think that she will be running for high office in 2012.

22. I think anytime a Woman Democrat beats A Republican , it's something to brag about
I know everyone thinks Palin is a joke, she's as dumb as a rock, with no real accomplishments, unlike Hillary who was a lawyer, a Senator & now Secretary of State, but she has quite a following, why I have no idea. I don't think we will see her as a presidential candidate (I sure as hell hope not!) but I bet they will give her a try at VP again. Maybe this time, she will actually know what a VP does. So I'm glad Hillary beat her.

Anyways, Congrats to SoS Clinton!

37. No disrespect to Hillary or many on the list BUT
any list that has the idiot, theocratic, soulless, lying, quitting fraud Palin and the war criminal Rice in its top 5 most admired is inherently a worthless piece of shit.

Again, nothing personal or saying the list doesn't contain admirable people but come on now?!? It's not a woman thing either, the men's list has Beck pretty high so it might as well be used toilet paper as well. I am happy and quite relieved that Hillary beat out Palin and disturbed to the point of crawling up in the fetal position that it is that close.

:wtf:

There should not have even been a contest between Hillary and Palin. :banghead: If any Palin supporter actually gave a half a thought to how things might be like in the country with "Sarah" at the helm and how ready SHE actually is for that "3 AM call", they might think twice- but, unfortunately, they probably don't even think once. I caught a few clips of interviews with some of the Sarah "cultists" at a book signing on C-SPAN and it seems to me that they are really not a whole lot of different than (in fact they're probably the same kind of) people whom take Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, Fox News, etc. seriously and listen to them while utilizing little or no critical thought as to what they are actually saying and whether or not it actually makes any sense. Palin seems to be stuck in perpetual *victim* mode- making it seem as though everybody (ESPECIALLY the "liberal media") is simply out to get her and picking on *poor* Sarah for nothing more than just being a woman in politics- as though Hillary didn't have to go through a whole lot worse but, of course, she never whined about it. It's almost demeaning and insulting to Hillary to compare her with Palin and I had a real issue with Palin trying to grasp onto Hillary's "18 million cracks in the glass ceiling" legacy in her VP nomination acceptance speech.
