Blame Game Backfiring on Republicans?
Blame Game Backfiring on Republicans?

Mike Allen notes that the GOP is blaming the Obama administration for the failed Christmas Day airplane attack. "But Republican lawmakers, candidates, pundits and commentators -- and the Bush administration -- blamed the CLINTON administration for 9/11."

Flashback to September 2006, Secretary of State Rice told the New York Post editorial board: "Nobody organized this country or the international community to fight the terrorist threat that was upon us until 9/11... We just weren't organized as a country either domestically or as a leader internationally. But what we did in the eight months was at least as aggressive as what the Clinton Administration did in the preceding years... We were not left a comprehensive strategy to fight al Qaeda."

That logic would mean the Bush administration is also culpable for the intelligence failures discovered over the last week.

1. Bush should be blamed because he released the planners
not because of some Republican style (un)logic.

2. All that blog post really says is
that the blame game should backfire on Republicans. We'll have to wait and see if it actually does.

3. The logic only works if you accept that
Clinton was responsible for 9/11 (which obviously isn't true). It isn't worth using Republican logic.

5. The point I take from it is that the blame never falls on Republicans.
Reagan's recession was due to Carter. Bush I's recession was due to Carter. Bush II's recession was due to Clinton. 9-11 was due to Clinton. The financial sector collapse of 2008 was due to Clinton until Obama took office, at which time it became Obama's fault. Anything untoward that happens post January 2009 is Obama's fault, at least until there is a new Democrat in power to shoulder the blame.

6. As long as the MSM such as
CNN trying to outfox FOX NEWS the republicans are being made to look like the good guys. They screwed the heck out of all types of national security and now we are feeling the effects, but the public thinks the democrats are responsible.

All the republicans did was wire tap the democrats emails and telephone calls so they could set up defenses for re-election. And to do the same to the public to find out who was FOR them and who was AGAINST them. I think that's about the only thing they did, except play with the color wheel containing the terror alerts.

7. But I also remember a bunch of people saying *
had been in office for 9 months, that it happened on his watch, and it was his responsibility. I'm not sure if those people are blaming Obama now.

15. If Obama got a PDB last month
Stating Kenyan planning on targeting America and he told the person who delivered it, 'fine you covered your ass,' I will blame Obama. I never blamed Bush for the Shoe Bomber, nor do I blame Obama for the latest attempt. Seems consistent to me.

8. GOP Weekly Radio Address...looking ahead
Edited on Sat Jan-02-10 11:42 AM by Tippy
During the GOP's weekly radio address, the Kentucky lawmaker, Mitch McConnell said the U.S. will ultimately overcome the daunting problems of war, recession and double-digit unemployment.

He says the nation's leaders will unite for the common good despite political disagreements that are the hallmark of a vibrant democracy.

Recon the Holidays has something to do with he had to say?????

9. See Wm. Rivers Pitt's essay (Strange Days Indeed) on the DU Home page..
He lists the many many Y2K terrorist plots foiled in the last days of the Clinton Administration.
Ms. Rice is not speaking the truth. We were plenty organized to fight the terrorist threat before 9/11. The Bushies simply ignored those preparations.

going on to the new * administration....the new administration was not interested. They always forget to report about that.....oh and don't forget outing Valerie Plame and her entire network...
