Warren Ballentine: The Whitehouse cut a deal with Chris Dodd
Rahm Emanuel told Dodd you can't win that seat in November and a deal was cut to have him not run for reelection and have Blumenthal run because he can win. Ballentine believes Dodd will get a high paying job in Washington in return.DAMN!!! I didn't think of this he might be on to something

1. Beyond obvious.
It could be they wanted a "win" to overshadow the Dorgan retirement. I doubt they wanted that.

I'm not too happy with them pushing John Cherry out of the governors race in Michigan. If they think Andy Dillon is a better option, they are mistaken. I question the judgment of Obama's team on the Cherry move.

8. I swear it was only a couple of days ago I was being laughed at for worrying about the elections.
Looks like I am vindicated.

2. That seems like a smart deal
Who cares if it's true or not? Dodd was toast in the senate either way.

6. Probably a good thing.
Saved us a seat for 2010. Now CT's gone back to being safe blue, according to fivethirtyeight.com.

17. have you completely fucking lost it, dear?
do bother, just once, to inform yourself. Dodd's problems with insurance companies far, far precedes Obama arriving on the national scene.

20. He was still set up from what I can gather.
Dodd put forth a piece of the overall legislation that would have denied AIG executives the big bonuses. The White House made him water it down. They they leaked to the press the AIG bonuses were Dodd's fault to protect themselves.

21. Dodd did NOT do their dirty work on AIG
he was simply blamed for what the WH did.

The fact is that Dodd's long involvement in Baking and Insurance issues and his connections is what could give him that job.

18. One minute we want LBJ, the next minute we don't.
If Obama was able to persuade Todd to retire (after 30 years in the Senate) by simply doing one of the things he can do; getting him a job in government, than more power to Obama, especially if that's one less Republican in the Senate saying NO to everything,...right?
