Now I guess he could change his mind, but if he does indeed renominate her and the WH gets more aggressive with the Senate (Gibbs apparently took off after the Senate Republicans on this issue today), what's the over/under on the number of "mea culpas will be posted on DU?

1. I say a total of three
Yep, I say three amongst the hundred or so will actually issue a mea culpa.

2. I say none, not a one.
They've already had opportunities after being proven wrong on one thing or another.

If caught dead wrong then they deflect or distract to another issue.

I don't think we'll see any mea culpae.

3. I'll be a very happy camper if Johnsen is renominated.
She's definitely one of the good guys.

6. Nice stick in Cheney's eye - He who needs affirmation for is torture policy
He needs it so badly and a renomination of Johnsen would be a nicely timed poke at Darth.

7. no mea culpas for criticizing Obama are necessary
if Obama does anything progressive, it's going to be because of pressure from the left.

They pulled Johnsen due to pressure from the right. If the left didn't make a stink, then there would be no cost to pulling her. We need to let Obama know we just won't go along quietly when he caves to the right.

8. No one PULLED Johnsen. The Senate has stalled on her and other nominees for more than a year...
Edited on Wed Jan-06-10 10:27 PM by phleshdef
...and thus they have to be renominated. And yes, mea culpas are definately in order for those who were jumping the gun and saying that Obama wasn't going to renominate her and acting like the Obama administration had something to do with her nomination expiring, saying as much while, per usual, not having the first fucking clue what they were talking about, no knowledge of the process or the facts behind her Senate holdup and no historical knowledge of similar nominee situations with past administrations. It wasn't "criticism", it was knee jerk, uninformed, lemming-ass, "I'm more progressive than thou" foolishness.

10. the reality is that Johnsen's nomination was not held over
and some people noticed this fact, called attention to it, made a stink about it, and some people called their senators and called the White House and those calls have a chance to influence what happens with Johnsen.

This will continue throughout Obama's presidency. We will pay attention to what he's doing, make a stink when we don't like it, and try to get them to do it different. No mea culpas needed for that.

15. we lost that one
a pretty ineffective fight from the progressives, imo. We got hosed. We'll have to find a better way to fight for EFCA, for example, and a good jobs bill.

But even if we lose, we don't have to give mea culpas for fighting.

you go spouting OFF. Since Dawn wasn't confirmed by the Senate in 2009 she had to be renominated in the next year.

From your post, you don't know shit..Obama is doing what he thinks is right..not some wannabe teabag marchers on the left.

16. I thought progressives were irrelevant.
Why do you need mea culpas from an irrelevant group of nobodies that don't actually even exist, according to the corporatist "centrists"?
