Photos: The Obama Presidency, January 6th, 2010
Edited on Wed Jan-06-10 10:12 PM by Clio the Leo
Someone on the news told me this was a BAD day for the Democrats and President Obama.

U.S. Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd (D-CT) laughs at a joke told by President Barack Obama to the audience during a fundraiser for Dodd in Stamford, Connecticut, in this October 23, 2009 file photo. Dodd will announce on January 6, 2010 he will not seek re-election in November, two senior Democratic party aides said. The news, coupled with another Democrat's retirement announcement, underscored the fragility of the Democrats' Senate majority, which is just enough to push President Barack Obama's agenda past Republican procedural obstacles.

Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal holds two containers of spray-on suntan lotion during a news conference Monday, July 6, 2009 at the East Haven Town Beach in East Haven, Conn. Blumenthal said he is writing a letter to Food and Drug Administration head Dr. Margaret A. Hamburg calling on the FDA to stop deceptive and misleading labelling on sunscreens.

Participants, one wearing a picture of her school class, chats at an event where U.S. President Barack Obama honored educators for awards in mathematics and science teaching in his second "educate to innovate" event in the East Room of the White House in Washington, January 6, 2010.

President Barack Obama smiles as he arrives in the East Room of the White House .... to speak at a ceremony honoring educators for awards received for excellence in mathematics and science teaching and mentoring.

If this was a BAD day, I'd be interested to see what kind of faces they make on a GOOD day.

A taxi passes a billboard ad featuring President Barack Obama wearing a Weatherproof brand jacket Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at 41st Street and 7th Avenue in Times Square in New York. Outerwear company Weatherproof used a recent news photo of the president in front of the Great Wall in Badaling, China, for the advertisement without permission.

I'm going to make a mental snapshot of this one for the next time someone tells me "Obama is plummeting in the polls!" .... apparently he's SO unpopular that a sportswear company is using a GIANT "Weatherproof" Obama in Times Square to sell their stuff ... I'd love to be that unpopular. :)

1. Richard Blumenthal at the East Haven Beach.
I have been to that beach.
And laughing at Joe and his big goofy smile.
And the billboard, too funny.

3. Isn't that the truth....
Edited on Wed Jan-06-10 10:34 PM by Clio the Leo
.... take all of the negativity and roll it into a ball .... bottom line, if the public hates you .... you're not going to be on a giant billboard in Times Square if your being so won't sell some jackets. Even if it is in "fake America" dark blue Manhattan. The WH officially denounced this of course, but seeing it had to please them a bit.

Puts things into perspective.

4. k&u

1) K - Kicking for Sen. Dodd, whose departure is a big loss to the Democratic party and the American people.

2) U - after having recommended dozens if not hundreds of cutesy picture threads, fuck that shit.

If I want to see cute and photogenic people, I'll buy tabloids. I expect more than that from my government.

17. You can always avoid threads that begin with the word "PHOTOS"
rather than put yourself through the pain of seeing people who don't mind smiling in the President's company.

So it's come to the point that people are offended by a photographic record of this presidency? Odd.

24. So do yourself and everyone else a favor and just don't participate in photo threads.
What a concept! You don't have to read everything on DU!

25. I'll participate in anything I choose to, TYVM.

"What a concept! You don't have to read everything on DU!" - what a ridiculous comment. I read a tiny fraction (definitely less than 0.1% of what is posted on DU), and I certainly don't need your permission to read anything I happen to open, and neither am I interested in your opinion (on anything, quite frankly, based on your posting record).

I will miss Dodd and will not be surprised when it comes out that he saved our economy by his work this past year. Time will tell and I wish him well.

10. Well, it's not so much that it's illegal....
.... but I suppose he might have grounds for a civil case.

Here's info on the billboard...
http://dnainfo.com/20100106/midtown-west-hells-kitchen/clothing-company-uses-president-barack-obama-times-square-billboard-without-permission

And related info about PETA using Michelle in a similar manner
http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5g8qgu7E0ar06LJH57qNhEvrLUZMQ

I guess they could sue .... and they went so far as protecting their names and images last spring after the Beanie Baby company made the Sasha and Malia dolls.

But still, it's a whole heck of a lot larger than any "Joker" billboard I've seen. :)

11. Now here is the important question we should all consider....
..... WHY is precious Times Square real estate wasted on a Red Lobster?

Seriously. ...... Was there NOT a corner free in Wasilla?

16. Nice to see
I like the 'unauthorized' photo - that's one I wouldn't mind if I were POTUS, but PETA had the nerve to use Michelle's official portrait!

Seeing the President and those around him in action and looking like they're happy to do what they're doing feels like a stark contrast to the waves of anger and discontent that pour out of this forum on a daily basis lately. It's nice to see this amidst the negativity.

The next few years should be interesting to say the least!
