Pelosi: "we would not be at this historic moment without the leadership of President Obama"
Edited on Wed Jan-06-10 10:06 PM by ProSense
“…We’ve had a very intense couple of days with meetings in our leadership, meetings with our staff. After our leadership meeting this morning, our staffs engaged with the Senate and the Administration’s staff to review the legislation, suggest legislative language. I think we’re very close to reconciliation, respectful of the challenges — policy and otherwise — in the House and in the Senate.

“But we would not be at this historic moment without the leadership of President Obama — with his commitment to health care for all Americans as a right, not a privilege. So we thank him for his vision and his leadership. We also thank him for his time and his attention to the details of the legislation.

<...>

As the President has said, health care reform is entitlement reform for reasons that affect the lives of working families in America, of seniors in our country, young people, our veterans, you name it, everyone benefits by the passage of this legislation.

19. She said this BEFORE the comments that the media is saying were a dig at him
I saw the whole thing, and it was at the FIRST meeting where she praised President Obama with those exact words. At the end of the press avail, she was asked a question about "but didn't he say on the campaign"--to which she replied the he said a lot of things. I don't think she meant it as a slight at all, but the media has taken that snipit and run with it.

4. "Historic Moment" ... more like "Histrionic Moment...."
Wait until millions of seniors can't get a medicare appoint, can't get their prescriptions filled and we have to ration health care.

Then we'll see how historic it is. But by then it will be too late.. this horrible POS bill will be law. A giant wet kiss to Big Insurance.

9. Health care is ALREADY "rationed"--why the RW talking point? I doesn't make your point...
Health care in this country is already strictly rationed by ability to pay, and pay through the nose at that.

Did you watch any of the coverage of the Remote Area Medical free clinics that Olbermann has been promoting? Those working-class folks and unemployed former middle class folks are living in pain and ill-health, and dying before their time by the tens of thousands every year.

Any one of them would be only too happy to have some of that "rationed" health care you seem so afraid of.

If you have concerns about the content of the final bill, I'm sure they can be stated without stooping to RW talking points.

15. I'm on Medicare
and there is no histrionics going on with me.

Maybe hysteria contagious. We have a hysterical former Vice President, hysterical baggers, a hysterical press, hysterical Repubs, and people hysterical about the health care bill(s).

23. Your (Pelosi's) sentence would be equally true with bush's name.
Edited on Thu Jan-07-10 07:46 PM by WT Fuheck
I said nothing about credit. In bush's case it would be blame, not credit.

18. How likely is it that a savvy House speaker...

is going to show unconcealed disdain for a president of her party? What I think is more relevant, is her obvious disdain for Harry Reid, grinder of the Senate health care sausage the president favors over the House's version.
