Bill Clinton to address healthcare at House Democrats retreat

Bill Clinton to address healthcare at House Democrats retreat
By Jared Allen - 01/08/10 04:58 PM ET

Former President Bill Clinton will address House Democrats at their annual retreat next week on healthcare, an issue closely identified with his presidency.

Clinton is likely to give the keynote speech on healthcare on Friday, the retreat’s final day, and may take on a more prominent role in discussing the issue at the retreat than even President Barack Obama, according to House leadership aides involved in the planning.

Clinton’s appearance, House aides said, is specifically designed to remind House Democrats of the perils associated with killing healthcare reform — a phenomenon that rocked Clinton’s first term and contributed to Democrats' losing power in both chambers the next year.

The choice to have Clinton deliver the keynote healthcare remarks comes at critical time for House Democrats.

5. WTF - "designed to remind House Democrats of the perils associated with killing healthcare reform"

I love ya Bill. But the perils are steep in passing this Bill as-is. To say that the party is unpleased with HCR would be an understatement.

Instead of asking the Base to shut up and swallow, how about getting the things we really want and need (the Public Option)
while not be a sell-out to Big Pharma and Big Insurance.

Is that really too much to ask, for gods sake?

7. And NOW we know what they talked about yesterday...
.... as if there was any doubt.

President Obama's speech from this event last year is one of my favorites of his ... I imagine CSPAN will carry this one too, should be good.

13. Bill Clinton - one more lying Democratic president. I'm sure he'll be passing out the HRC koolaid
Mixed up by Obama and the traitors in the Senate, and I hope the House Democrats spit it out rather than swallow it.

17. Yes, which means I don't hesitate to call out lying Dem politicians who protect the status quo and
their own hides rather than promote the welfare of the voters who put them in office, rather than rewarding Wall Street and the health care industry for fucking us over.

18. You really think Clinton, Obama, and even the most liberal Dems. in congress want this
bill to pass so it HURTS regular voters while "rewarding" Wall St. and the health care industry? :eyes:

20. Making sure whatever bill that passes doesn't hurt the health care industry and Wall St.
Is their top priority. That's why they bent over so far to make the bill acceptable to repugs and DINOs, while progressives who didn't like it were told to go fuck themselves.

21. That's bull. Obama was happy when Harry Reid put the opt-out public option in the bill,
Edited on Fri Jan-08-10 09:40 PM by jenmito
he was happy when Nancy Pelosi put the public option in the bill, and he's happy that both the House and Senate passed bills. He (and Clinton and liberals) are not doing all they can to make it acceptable to those conservatives/conservadems. They're doing all they can to get a bill passed-with the congress they have.

the Dems. in congress look like failures which is why they got crushed in '94.

19. One of this favorite health care talking points used to be costs...
Clinton’s appearance, House aides said, is specifically designed to remind House Democrats of the perils associated with killing healthcare reform — a phenomenon that rocked Clinton’s first term and contributed to Democrats' losing power in both chambers the next year.

But now that cost controls have been entirely thrown out of this bill, is his main talking point now going to be political expediency? Worried about how things will "look"?

How about a little of that whatfor and get in line for the fuckers on the right end of the party that run the place and hold the nation hostage on a whim?

What sleaxy, low life tactics we are about now.

*Edit for adding an unrec*

Unrec on kneeslapping and celebrating a heavy being sent to browbeat, intimidate, and guilt the few reps that actually are trying to work for the people and give us some sembalnce of a square deal for Americans that need help not a collar and chain.
