Proof that critics of Obama don't necessarily hate him

Rachel Maddow speaks the truth

by blackwaterdog

<...>

The transcript is just of the Obama portion of the interview, but you should watch the clip. It's fun and interesting.

Letterman: It's coming up on the anniversary of president Obama being inaugurated. Give us the assessment here. How is it look?

Rachel: "The most interesting thing about Obama's first year, is how crazy the opposition has gone in reaction to him. And that's been so exciting - The Sarah Palin, Micheal Steele, tea party stuff on the right - That i think nobody is notice that he's kind of quietly put together the most legislative accomplished first year of any president in a generation. He has done a lot".

Letterman: Certainly has done a lot, because there was a lot to do. But effectively accomplished things, or just accomplished things?

Rachel: "Well, the bailout thing - while being wildly unpopular - does appear to have stopped the financial industry from disappearing. We still do have AN economy. It's not the best one, but we have one. To sort of saving us from having another great depression was a thing he didn't planned to do, but he actually did it, and he had to do a lot of politically unpopular things.

"He also did the giant stimulus, which even conservatives starting to admit now worked. And if health care signed - that's something that what, 6, 7 presidents have tried to do and nobody has been able to. So everybody is saying what a disappointment he's been, while he's quietly doing everything he wants to do".

7. And there are some who are beyond that
No one is saying that some people simply don't agree with where the administration SEEMS to be headed on certain issues.

But there are some who are beyond just honest concern, IMO.

And yes, I've seen someone outright declare their hatred of him.

The issue is not that people are being told to "shut up and sit down" or to "put on jackboots", as some have claimed over and over. That's just hysterical hyperbole being thrown around for drama. If someone hasn't been banned, they have a voice to say whatever they want.

The issue is that there are some who are beyond having a reasonable exchange without resorting to namecalling and hyperbolic accusations. They open posts with no intent of opening a reasonable discussion. They're angry and sarcastic and seem to want to argue.

That's my issue with these posts proclaiming "we have a right to criticize". Everyone already KNOWS that; the problem is that some people are expressing anger at the President beyond criticism. And since that is so subjective, the arguments about what's over the top and what's not are kicked around over and over and over and over.

4. I'm sure the critic on DU who said
"Obama doesn't care about poor people and anyone who thinks otherwise has their head up their ass" really doesn't hate him either :eyes:

5. that is not hate
I don't agree with it, and that person may well hate Obama, but that statement itself is not an example of hate. That's an opinion. Imo it is over the top, but it's not hate.

DU has been rife with examples of hate. An example is a thread titled "I fucking hate her" about Hillary, which shot to #1 on our "Greatest" page. Many many examples of hatred of Nancy Pelosi, just vitriol which stood here without protest. Vitriol like she got never has and never will be tolerated about Obama, which is a VERY GOOD THING, imo.

6. umm if someone accused me of not caring about poor people
I would feel hated. Am I out of line in that thinking?

"I like him, I just think he hates poor people. Oh that Wacky Barry!"
