Poll question: I don't like Gossip. I don't like Halperin. I don't like the media pushing a reporter's Book.
I don't like stuff coming out of a book leading the fucking news by the nose.

I don't like a book being used to oust a Democratic Senator.

I don't like the way the media has dealt with the race issue going back to coverage of Rev. Wright,
to hyping the non existent Bradley Effect, to fucked up race obsessed exit polls after each primary, to hitting the Pres. over the head for his Professor Gates comments, leading up to Reid's comments. So this Book is being used for more of the same.

I don't like the Edwards family being trashed anymore than has already occurred at their own hands.

I don't even give a shit about what the book has to say about Palin, cause that's one person that really doesn't interest me, as I knew she was a liar and an airhead before the book came out.

More than anything though, I don't like watching so many at DU allowing themselves to be manipulated by this gossip piece of trash of a book, while following with open nostrils each subject from the book the Media chooses to highlight as News.

Far as I'm concerned, Fuck this Book.

I will not be buying it, nor reading it.

But what about you?

And, this "book" is just another in a long long line of distractions for them to try and use against Dems.

Cause that's where they get their "News of the day" from, it seems.

Jessica hey?

I'm gonna have to call her up and ask her how it went!
Then I can start a thread about that!

10. Probably because we both truly are Progress(ives), and really
want to see progress....and as long as the direction in which we are headed is forward,
we appreciate this after 8 long years of swift backward movement.

That's what I suspect, anyways. :hi:

11. Minus the swear words, your post describes my sentiments
to a tee. I can't stand Halperin and I don't like the uneasy feeling I get as their cohorts salivate over the juicy tidbits as they reveal them.

Alas, many are easily distracted by the shiny new object dangling before them. Others, including the author and I, are not awed.

Just so happens, I saw these two campaign-embedded media creeps, joined by their fellow embeddeds, on a panel on C-Span around this time last year, just after the election. I'm sure, by now, it's archived on C-Span, as well as youtube.

This proves that this book was in the works from the beginning of the campaign and was vetted not only by Congress critters but, ultimately by someone in the WH prior to its release.

Anyway, first blind items revealed in print media after the election, appeared in the weekly magazines--Newsweek, etc., but Halperin was all over broadcast media before and after the 2008 campaign. He said often that there was an expose' being composed about the most extraordinary political events in history. IIRC, he was on Charlie Rose at least once with this.

Maybe I'll check it out of the library at some point, but IDK. I'm neither shocked nor appalled by the revelations so far. Learned some years ago that politics is a dirty business, and people often run off at the mouth when they should be keeping their counsel. But whatever.

12. Tweety did an excellent job with the authors on Hardball today...
..... trying to get them to say whether the Reid quote came directly from him or from a secondary source (if it was from Reid, what's the harm in saying so now?)

They squirmed and wriggled and said nothing.

To their credit though .... Plouffe says in HIS book that he met with Halperin the day of the New Hampshire primary for an interview of "what the Obama campaign did right to win NH!" and Plouffe was reluctant because he knew they might not win .... they didn't of course and Halperin never ran the story.

I still dont like the trash though.

15. I agree with you on each and every point
This book has one author, who praised Drudge as "our" Edward R. Murrow - and that is the kind of news he is serving us hear. This is an incredibly nasty book filled with gossip.

The worst thing I've seen come out of it is the hysteria on the right to destroy Harry Reid. The fact is that comment made behind closed doors in a conversation where everyone knew his resepect for Obama and his own record on civil rights. The fact is that I doubt the hypocrites on the right have done what he has done on the issue. It is bad enough that in Presidential campaigns, peopel are on record nearly every moment they are awake - and the media feels comfortable taking any awkward comment and twisting it as badly as they could. I can't imagine the pain to these people, who work years to get the reputations they have only to see everything reduced to one ill thought out statement. No on could be exempt from this.

Is there anyone who never - out of anger, confusion, not thinking etc - never said something that would offend many people who know you - which you would never put in a speech or paper, because with a moments reflection you disagree? This is the politics of destruction.

As to the Edwards, hasn't this reached rubbernecking to see an accident proportions. He has no career and his reputation on all levels is destroyed, likely including his relationship with his family. Even if Elizabeth was twice as bad as this shows, hasn't she been hurt enough? I don't have to list all she has been through - we all know it. Why ruin her reputation and cause this pain in what could be the remaining years of her life. The same to a lesser degree could be said of the McCains and the Clintons - did either couple's private lives need to be exposed?

As to Palin, there might be a purpose as she - oddly - is seen to have a political future. I don't think so, because I would bet she has offended every Republican experienced at running campaigns.

I only read the reviews and the free excerpt of Halperin's 2004 book. I never did more as it had no merit, but compared to this monstrosity, it was mild. It didn't seek to destroy everyone involved - though certainly it wouldn't have taken much to show Cheney as evil and Bush as not a nice guy.

The Clintons are trashed as well.

16. I am guessing this has something to do with what Reid supposedly said?
the subject of which bores me so much that I haven't really bothered to read much about it?
seriously, no one outside of the idiotic editorializing sector of the media is talking about this.
By the way I voted for "what book?"

18. I've been pissed off about this book since I first started seeing...
... excerpts from it last week.

It only serves two purposes: 1) Money for the authors; and 2) pain for the people it talks about.

I think it's pretty disgusting.

21. I agree completely. All sources are unnamed. It's a piece of crap book.
Halperin is a jerk (I've always thought that about him) and this book is nothing more than a political National Inquirer. Nothing can be proved, therefore, it can say whatever it wants.

The way the media has grabbed it and seized on the juicy details is sickening.

No way I'd buy that book.
