Iowa Family PAC endorses Vander Plaats, rips Branstad
The Iowa Family PAC, an influential group of social conservatives, has endorsed Bob Vander Plaats for governor.

The group, led by Danny Carroll and Chuck Hurley, praised Vander Plaats on the gay marriage issue.

What may be most striking, however, is its harsh words for ex-Gov. Terry Branstad — and its pledge not to endorse a candidate in the fall election if Branstad is the GOP nominee.

Probably not too surprising the group didn’t endorse Branstad, but the idea it would sit on the sidelines if he’s the nominee is a head turner.

The group called Branstad the “most disappointing” candidate, faulting him on fiscal and social issues.

Interestingly, the group praised Vander Plaats for pledging to put in place an order staying the state Supreme Court’s decision legalizing gay marriage. There’s considerable question whether that’s even legal.
