A Letter to Rush Limbaugh From: Roger Ebert January 14, 2010

You should be horse-whipped for the insult you have paid to the highest office of our nation.

Having followed President Obama's suggestion and donated money to the Red Cross for relief in Haiti, I was offended to hear you suggest the President might be a thief capable of stealing money intended for the earthquake victims.

Here is a transcript from your program on Thursday:

Justin of Raleigh, North Carolina: "Why does Obama say if you want to donate some money, you could go to whitehouse.gov to direct you how to do so? If I wanted to donate to the Red Cross, why do I have to go to the White House page to donate?"

Limbaugh: "Exactly. Would you trust the money's gonna go to Haiti?"

Justin: "No."

Rush: "But would you trust that your name's gonna end up on a mailing list for the Obama people to start asking you for campaign donations for him and other causes?"

Justin: "Absolutely!"

Limbaugh: "Absolutely!"

That's what was said.

Unlike you and Justin of Raleigh, I went to Obama's web site, and discovered the link there leads directly to the Red Cross. I can think of a reason why anyone might want to go via the White House. That way they can be absolutely sure they're clicking on the Red Cross and not a fake site set up to exploit the tragedy.

But let me be sure I have this right. You and Justin agree that Obama might steal money intended for the Red Cross to help the wretched of Haiti.

This conversation came 48 hours after many of us had seen pitiful sights from Port au Prince. Tens of thousands are believed still alive beneath the rubble. You twisted their suffering into an opportunity to demean the character of the President of the United States.

This cannot have been an accident. A day earlier, a sound bite from your show went viral, in which you said Obama would exploit the situation to please his "black followers -- both the light-skinned and the dark-skinned ones."

Sen. Harry Reid made his careless comment thoughtlessly. Yours must have came after some thought. A one-liner in code to please your listeners who enjoy hearing African-Americans discussed in racist language. Yes, racist -- as anyone living in this country must realize.

You have a sizable listening audience. You apparently know how to please them. Anybody given a $400 million contract must know what he is doing.

That's what offends me. You know exactly what you're doing.

In case anyone cares to know. :) He's the only critic who can influence whether I go see a movie, but he's also a strong moral voice worth listening to. Way to go, Ebert.

But I know what you mean.

Still, I suspect Ebert is much more satisfied with his life than Limbaugh.

67. hi jgraz! I'm not that old, but I have admired Roger for decades, he is a wonderful human, I cannot
even call Rush human. All I can say is, even though many disagree, I do believe in an afterlife. I believe Rush will not have time to be highly disappointed in what happens to him in it. There won't be any time to stop the never-ending pain from the moment his last breath happens.

He is a vile person, and anyone who can sit and listen to that "show" of his and enjoy it, clearly has emotional or bigot issues resounding.

66. He seems to be doing well, considering
On his blog recently he revealed that not only can he no longer talk, he cannot eat or drink either. He had hoped to restore those abilities by enduring three operations but he's now come to terms with the fact it's not going to change. I think his cancer is in remission.

He has more grace than I would under those circumstances.

I've noticed he's gotten more vocal since his illness regarding his politicial beliefs. Having faced his mortality, he's probably decided to let it all hang out. What can anyone possibly say to him now that trumps his experiences?

54. Bingo!! My thoughts exactly.
Psychological projection is natural to all humanity; we all ascribe our attributes onto the other people around us. The lesson is: When someone is talking about how other people act/think/etc, they are telling you A LOT about themselves.

You would think that people in positions of power would condemn this vile excuse for a human being. The silence is deafening and poignantly reveals to what depths our nation has sank.

That was Rush's weak idea of a joke. "He's trying to burnish his image with the light-skinned ones AND the dark-skinned ones." 'Cause, see, to Rush it's all about race. Pig.

22. Roger Ebert is a great American
Edited on Fri Jan-15-10 10:32 AM by Bluenorthwest
And among film critics, he is nearly without peer. He has always been excellent, which is why I have enjoyed the fact that in recent years, under medical duress and such, has been doing his finest work. He gets better, still. That is something to admire. He has altered my view of film and of writing in general, more than once, in the short space of a film review. He is a critic whose criticism is nearly as fine an art as that which he so respectfully reviews. He's as good as the best films he reviews, and far better than the worst. For a critic, this is a high achievement. He actually does what they are all supposed to do. A genius.
And a good Democrat. Thanks for everything, Mr Ebert.

Come on, more people do this! In a big city people can get away with murder. In a small town where everyone knows everyone and everything, people don't get away with things. At least in theory.

We've given this shithead way way too much leeway.

I hired a worker back in the 90's who would spout the limbaugh talking points. I had no idea how to respond. Well, those who do know, SHOULD.

http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2010/01/14/world/0114-HAITI_3.html

Ordinarily, I would never wish ANYONE to have to live in such a hell on Earth for even a day, but the sad sack excuses for humanity that cheerlead Rush and get sponsors and radio networks to make him disgustingly rich off of such unvarnished hatred DESERVE the fate that has been bestowed upon innocent Haitian children.

It is enough to make me wish I believed in Heaven and Hell just so there would be a place to roast them in for eternity....

He says things like that knowing that it will be inflammatory, get attention, and help ratings and profits. Yes, it's sickening, but the fat man is laughing all the way to the bank. I wish I believed in God so I would think that he will eventually be made to pay for his evilness.

71.  THANKS ... I wish more people notable like Roger Ebert would speak up.
The bloated and voluminous bag of shit called Rush Limbaugh just can't please his audience enough. He'd like to inflate the listening audience over and over again.

No matter how much money this mental midget makes, he never stops turning people off once they realize, "what the hell am I listening to this shit for?"

Eventually, his glee club grow out of him (just like he does with his sweaty shirts) and move on.

If listeners don't grow out of listening to that spew, they go on trying to harass bar flies, get thrown in jail for drunken rages or beating their wives, try to pay off cops for DUI's, or if they REALLY CAN'T get it up after listening to Rush, they rape little boys in the Dominican Republic.

73. Gasbag just got a scolding from Keith Olbermann.
I feel like we've made progress. Years went by without anyone saying anything. Now we're speaking up against this creature.

79. It seems to me that if Limbaugh is free to spout his racist hate-speech
then Ebert should be at least as free to voice his opinion about what should be done to purveyors of racist hatred.

Limbaugh endorses the wholesale murder-by-inaction of hundreds of thousands of Haitians, and that's apparently okay with you. But Ebert suggests that one bloated asshole should be held accountable for his remarks, and this offends you?

Talk about hypocrisy.

77. A horsewhipping is much to little for that POS. I'd volunteer to do worse
if I thought I could get away with it.

80. When are more people in the media going to start slamming Limbaugh?
He's a total disgrace to this country and an evil human being.
