Eeyores....
Edited on Sat Jan-16-10 12:03 AM by FrenchieCat
Eeyores are folks that demoralize everyone that they are around.
They talk of dark futility and deep despair.

Hints that you might be having an encounter with an Eeyore:
They talk about the future in the past tense.
They ask folks to blame someone specifically for a failing that hasn't failed yet.
They preach the Self fulfilling prophecy Gospel......
and can make you believe that they are right in their call of the cause and effect
of something that hasn't yet happened.

There are actual websites out there that teaches "How to be an Eeyores" to Bloggers
and activists....and then send them out to demoralize whomever takes the bait.
http://hillbuzz.org/2009/12/07/using-concern-troll-tactics-against-the-left-help-push-independents-away-from-democrats/

Chuck Todd is an Eeyore.

Here's was his take on October 1, during the General Election....

This morning, Chuck Todd and the rest of MSNBC's political team crunches the polls and shifts its electoral map in favor of Obama, with a couple of real surprises:

Four new states have been added to our Toss-up category: three red states (Florida, Indiana, and North Carolina) and one blue state (Pennsylvania). This gives Obama a 212-174 edge, after his more narrow 233-227 lead last week.
What's interesting about these shifts is that while Obama is showing an improvement in fast-growing states (CO, FL, NV, NC, VA), he can't seem to put away the Northern tier states of slow-growing states (MI, PA, WI) or make progress in what some believe is still the all-important state of OH.

So it's now...

Likely Obama: CA, CT, DE, DC, HI, IL, ME, MD, MA, NY, RI, VT (157 electoral votes)
Lean Obama: IA, MN, NJ, NM OR, WA (55 votes)

Toss-up: CO, FL, IN, MI, NV, NH, NC, OH, PA, VA, WI (152 votes)

Lean McCain: MO, MT (14 votes)

Likely McCain: AL, AK, AZ, AR, GA, ID, KS, KY, LA, MS, NE, ND, OK, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, WV, WY (160 votes)
http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/09/msnbc_electoral_map_shifts_tow.php

Remember the PA race during the GE to get my drift.
Now, use the search function and look for thread titles
with PA in it during the time period here at DU, of October 29th through November 4th.

And also what some in the Media were saying on October 29th, 5 days before the election:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27439060

What 538 was saying at the time:
http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/11/pennsylvania-sanity-check.html

So if someone "feels" like they have just ran across an Eeyore,
chances are that this is true.

Whatever Eeyore is pronouncing, think opposite,
and go ahead and try to make a difference,
instead of shrugging your shoulders feeling helpless.

12. Well, the hillbuzz link was an eye-opener: folk, who really supported McCain but
pushed Clinton in the primaries because they (rightly or wrongly) thought McCain could beat her more easily than Obama in the general election, whining that their strategy was screwed over by concern-trolling leftists! As hillbuzz is now vaunting eeyorism, I'd bet ten-to-one some of the concern-trolling eeyores of yesteryear were the very authors of the hillbuzz post

I might have to start posting eeyore! as a response to some of this behavior at DU

39. It's hilarious that he claims to have invented "eeyore" during HClinton's run:
here's the term used in the comments on a Sam Seder page back in August 2006 --

*

The problem with liberals is they do not have a comprehensive plan they are presenting to the voters. The voters are looking for a good reason to vote for them and are not seeing one.

Posted by: Anonymous at August 17, 2006 8:19 PM

Just great. Eeyore cum concern troll is back.

Edited on Sat Jan-16-10 02:26 AM by elleng
"Good morning, Pooh Bear," said Eeyore gloomily. "If it is a good morning," he said. "Which I doubt," said he.
"Why, what's the matter?"
"Nothing, Pooh Bear, nothing. We can't all, and some of us don't. That's all there is to it."
"Can't all what?" said Pooh, rubbing his nose.
"Gaiety. Song-and-dance. Here we go round the mulberry bush."

21. How is that?
I check the threads here at GDP today, and Eeyore headlines are everywhere......threads about how we lost the MA race already (talking about the future in past tense), and threads saying who's fault it is (putting blame on someone specifically about something that hasn't happened yet), etc....

The telltale signs are there as to what an Eeyore does. Simply pointing it out is not flamebait, as far as I'm concerned....it's reminding folks that nothing positive ever gets done if people are approaching an issue negatively. period.

Too late to rec.

What needs to happen is this:

(1) We need to concern troll the concern trolls; go on their sites, pretend to agree with everything Dr. Utopia stood for in the campaign, and just put it out there how disappointed we are that he’s not being Liberal enough. Propel the meme that “this is not what we were promised!”

(2) Lunatic fringe groups like Code Pink and Moveon.org need to be revved up — make them go after Democrats they don’t think are Liberal enough…get them to force every bad Democrat out there into being MORE Liberal than they are now. Have these nuts drive people like Barney Frank, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Pat Murphy, John Murtha, and other BONKERS.

(3) Do everything possible to encourage the far Left to throw all their chips in, right here right now. Make the biggest push to the Left this country has ever seen…and make sure Independents see what is going on.

If Independents are driven away by too much Liberalism, and if we can stoke the Left into being as Liberal as possible, then 2010 will be an epic disaster for Democrats — who, after the way they behaved in 2008 and are behaving now, deserve to lose big.

Instead of concern trolling to dampen their spirits, which is what they did to Hillary and McCain supporters last year, we should troll to pump up their most Liberal firebrands…so those nuts can kamikaze the entire DNC with their zealotry.

54. yes, more name-calling--quel surpris!
notice that some names are subject to instant deletion while others, well, not so much.
those who truly care that the Democratic Party is going downhill as a way-station for disaffected right-leaning republicans and conservatives are sneered at and ridiculed, while those who embrace the status quo and preach the virtues of wishy-washy, compromised, unprincipled "centrism" and DLC corruption are the new "rulers" here.
oh well, it's not like this is the only forum on the Internet for intelligent, thinking people or anything. I find myself spending less and less time here nowadays, as being called names by inane self-righteous status-quo lovers does not really do much for my blood pressure and is a huge waste of time.

A thread posted ONLY to encourage name-calling -- there doesn't seem to be any other purpose to your OP -- is juvenile beyond belief, and really should be beneath anyone posting here. I like to think all of you are adults, and it's time to start sounding like it.

58. AKA shut up and be happy with the Rainbow Reagan party
also we'll be needing you guys to sell our crappy policies, knock on doors, donate, phone bank, generally act like you're 200% on board, and lap up whatever slop is offered and love it.

Look sister, I didn't sign up for a good looking family, great speeches, upgrade on Bush, and right wing/privatization policies.

Going into a thunderstorm and saying that the sun is shining is both stupid and dishonest. Observation of reality isn't being Eeyore anymore than being positive in light of good news.
