OH-01: Chabot Leads Driehaus in Rematch by 17 Points
In the battle of the Steves, two may enter, but only one may leave.

SurveyUSA for Firedoglake (1/12-14, likely voters):

Steve Driehaus (D-inc): 39
Steve Chabot (R): 56
Undecided: 5
(MoE: ±4.1%)

I don't think you need me to tell you that this is "rough". Ohio's 1st District has been a tough nut to crack for Democrats, usually leaning ever so slightly to the GOP. Al Gore lost the district by 46-51 in 2000, and John Kerry came up two points short four years later. Obama finally busted the dam open, winning the CD by a remarkable 55-44 spread. Now, if this poll is to be believed (and I can believe it), Obama has a 42-55 approval rating among likely voters in the district.

Rough.

1. The extent to which Democrats have pissed away the opportunity to ride the 2008 momentum for years
is disappointing and astonishing. However, it causes me a fair bit of dismay to think that people would seek to fix this by handing power right back to the people who caused the economic crisis in the first place. I guess I've learned a lot over the past year or so. Firstly, that the Democratic party can't be counted on to do the right thing even when it's staring us in the face and 2) people have shorter memories than I thought.

2. 3) Dems eat their own like ravenous lions
If anybody thinks the constant attacks from within the Democratic party on sites like DU hasn't contributed to the negativity, I've got a bridge to sell them.

4. It is the Congress' miserable failures that are responsible for losing the independents
The spectacle of the Senate, the Nebraska bribe to name one, is enough to make anyone puke.

6. And this measures up to eight years of Republican misrule how exactly?
Too many Americans are capricious and confused more than anything.

5. This seems odd....
I lived in this district for 20 years, and aside from a couple of races where Chabot ran against woefully underfunded opposition, he's NEVER held a 17 point lead on anybody. The idea that he would open up such a massive lead on Driehaus is suspicious.
