President Obama revives fiery rhetoric for campaign season
Source: News from The Hill

President Barack Obama this month has shifted from the measured tones he used throughout 2009 to push his policies, reviving his fiery campaign rhetoric that helped him win the White House.

Obama's trip to Massachusetts on Sunday comes as he and his administration have adopted a more confrontational political tone. In a departure from his olive branches to the GOP a year ago, Obama on Thursday welcomed a fight with Republicans on healthcare.

“Let me tell you something, if Republicans want to campaign against something by standing up for the status quo and for insurance companies over families and businesses, that is a fight I want to have,” Obama said...

he's ready to fight for it. Along with all those insurance industry lobbyists who financed his election.

That's exactly what the Senate bill does. Who does he think he's fooling with this faux outrage?

23. Obama can not dictate to Congress
Hillary tried and failed to force Congress to her way of thinking 16 years ago.

I've yet to see a single poster counter my oft repeated "Lieberman is NOT a Democrat"!

What part of Lieberman is not a Democrat do you not understand? Obama knows it. Heck, Nelson IS a Democrat and his little coalition of 5 Dems weren't going anywhere near a PO - what is YOUR solution to making them vote our way - threaten them with death? I just don't get it. Where is your center? Where is your common sense?

27. OK, we can do that after we set the framework of regulation etc that CAN'T be done in reconciliation
Edited on Sat Jan-16-10 09:53 PM by HughMoran
Would that be acceptable to you?

You do know that there is a LOT of good stuff that prevents the insurance companies from kicking people off insurance that can't be done in reconciliation - which is essentially a "budget only" process. Why can't we pass this needed reform and IMPROVE it later? If we kill this bill, I can virtually guarantee we won't see reform in my lifetime (I'm 50).

11. You really don't think Mass
Is a lost cause? I'm actually not pissed off at President Obama. I'm very angry that the Senate kissed the asses of people who said "No" after they allowed it to be watered down.

But I wonder - if the people of Massachusetts will actually even go out to vote?

I did in NJ - and look what I ended up with (A Rove-Bot). The apathy here from the left was eh - disheartening. If the left is going to come out - kudos for them. I just don't see them going out in droves.

And I also wonder if we've gotten a little soft in the past year . . .

24. The posters who are AGAINST this just don't get it!
They don't understand that both Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid had to "play chess" THEMSELVES to even GET to this point. It's like herding cats as they say, and nobody thought it could even be done. But they DID it. NOTHING Obama would've said could've made any difference.

But now that the final bill is in sight, after passing bills in the House and Senate, Obama is in a position to bring both versions together. And without his leadership, NOTHING would likely pass which would be a HUGE failure and the downfall of the Dem. party (like what happened in '94).

Obama will get a final bill to sign and will make history! And if this bill wasn't worth passing, you could BET there wouldn't be enough libs. to sign on to it.

The young people were energized to vote for Obama and were a factor in his winning the election. What is the situation in Massachusetts? Without the younger people voting I think many elections could go to the Republicans who seem to be more likely to show up at the polls.

Unless the rhetoric is matched by an actual bill that takes on insurance companies at the same level and not just at the margins that can be worked around, a return to rhetoric of old is not a good sign unless and until it's matched by a bill that kicks insurance company butt.
