Brown Justifies Denying 9/11 Rescue Workers Aid: ‘We Had To Take Care Of Our Own Priorities First’

During the same month Brown was voting down efforts to support 9/11 rescue workers, he was pushing a bill to appropriate a tax-subsidized bond to build a golf course in Norfolk, a city in his district. “Priorities,” indeed.

Typical Repig!

1. Wish people were exposing this scumbag all along
I never ever heard of him until recently and I am in the area. I think his being an unknown "pretty boy" is working in his favor. I hope the big-boys make it clear how important this is and to not let this little shit win due to apathy.

5. All I hear about him in the "liberal" media is that he worked hard traveling across the state
introducing himself to people, and that he's portraying himself as independent. Not ONE negative word about him. :eyes:

2. I heard that this news is NOT getting out in MA since the media is in the tank for Brown.
We need to have info. sent to voters to inform them of this stuff!

4. God knows I love negative campaigning.
But Coakley needs a convincing positive narrative, as well.

unless Coakley lacks an ounce of decency, there is no but. Brown is a typical RW scumbag.

8. I agree.
I support Coakley. But then I'm a yellow-dog straight-ticket-voting Democrat and most voters aren't. A negative campaign didn't pull Jon Corzine's (also a good guy) chestnuts out of the fire in Jersey. People need to be convinced that they're getting something positive, not just handing some rotten character a defeat.

11. From a NJ perspective, Corzine had many many problems
and he did run a relentlessly negative campaign.

Like MA, the Democrats controlled both houses of the state legislature, the Governorship and both Senators - not quite MA, but close. To make things worse, there was a huge sting that led to indictments of a large number of low level state officials - almost all Democrats months before the election. Even before this, corruption was rampant enough that the most difficult thing every time I phone banked was the people who brought up corruption as the reason for not voting.

Unlike with Coakley, some of the problem here was Corzine's. He never really completely regained the respect of the state after the very nasty race 4 years before, where his ex-wife spoke out against him and there was a 4 year saga because he gave millions to an ex-girl friend, who headed a union that he negotiated with - and refused to release their emails - an issue in the papers for at least 2 years. In addition, it really did not help that he was a former Goldman Sacks CEO, which is NOT a plus at this point.

In addition, although he actually did a really good job cutting the budget, but preserving education and healthcare spending, he never made the case that he did that. Instead he ran a very very negative campaign. I had heard early in the fall that that was intentional - to make both candidates so unpopular the turnout would be low and the superior Dem GOTV would work. (I thought it dumb and unlikely when I heard it - but for what ever reasons, that's what he did.)

There were exit polls, and Obama was far above 50% among the voters.
