Doubt me? The evidence is right in front of your noses. Why else would the banks be giving their top execs record bonuses? Why else would energy prices be going through the roof? Why else would health insurance stocks be skyrocketing? Quit it with the gloom and doom. Happy days are here again!

11. WI. We just paid $1.94/gal.
Gasoline is now $2.79, the highest in over a year. Crude, as low as $35 9 months ago, is now up to $80 again, with some speculating that it is about to go much higher.

13. I've been paying $2.50 - $3.00 for heating oil for several years running
You should be thanking your lucky starts that oil is so cheap where you live. Costs me $400/month to heat my house from mid-December through March.

14. I'm talking LP, not oil.
Our heating costs are over $400/mo too. I don't know offhand what local oil prices are, but I doubt if they're lower than yours.

Anyway, here's a graph of crude prices for the past year:

16. LP is $2.89/gallon here too
I use it for cooking, hot water and cloths drying, so I pay a hefty price for that too.

Graph didn't show BTW, though I track oil prices regularly, so it's no big deal - wasn't arguing that point per se.

20. In the '08-09 season we pre-bought a contract so we didn't see those prices.
I actually didn't realize how high it went last year; we were luckier than we realized with our contract. This month we got hit with the full force of that last spike on the graph.

12. You know, all sarcasm aside, it's not that far from the truth IMO
I'm glad that Obama is going to hoist a tax on the banks to counter their assholism, but if one is expecting bad times ahead to support arguments against the administration and Democrats in general, it may be a disappointing year ahead.

15. Believe me, I have no desire for bad times,
and am not particularly happy to be accused of being disappointed if things go well.

Nor do I see the current state of affairs as Obama's fault, although I also don't believe he's taking the right steps to head off an impending economic disaster I have been anticipating for several years.
