Dear Ed Henry and CNN: Fuck off!

Sources: Obama advisers believe Coakley will lose

From CNN Senior White House Correspondent Ed Henry

Washington (CNN) - Multiple advisers to President Obama have privately told party officials that they believe Democrat Martha Coakley is going to lose Tuesday’s special election to fill the Massachusetts Senate seat held by the late Ted Kennedy for more than 40 years, several Democratic sources told CNN Sunday.

The sources added that the advisers are still hopeful that Obama's visit to Massachusetts on Sunday - coupled with a late push by Democratic activists - could help Coakley pull out a narrow victory in an increasingly tight race against Republican state Sen. Scott Brown.

However, the presidential advisers have grown increasingly pessimistic in the last three days about Coakley's chances after a series of missteps by the candidate, sources said.

1. Sounds like the electro-fraud fix is in.
And the whore media has already been told about the outcome.

25. they tried to sabotage Obama and failed. they will fail this time, too
There needs to be a law making it illegal for news organizations to try and make the news as opposed to reporting it.

They have too much access to the Public and too much trust invested in them to be so rampantly attempting to manipulate our minds.

4. BULLSHIT. If Obama thought she was going to lose, he wouldn't have campaigned for her today.

10. You wanna reconsider the logic of that statement?
You trying to say he thought she would win and just went up there so he could take credit?

Or maybe he was bored and had nothing better to do?

OBVIOUSLY he thought her campaign was at risk and wanted to influence it for the positive. As in, make her win. Not lose. So OF COURSE they thought she would likely lose if he didn't go. No revelation there.

14. Why should I reconsider anything?
I never said Pres. Obama thinks her win is inevitable.

I only said I do not believe he thinks she is going to lose.

There is a difference between realizing there is a chance she could lose and thinking she will lose. Don't you agree? Perfectly sound and right logic.

So, rethink your logic. Because the article says nothing about Pres. Obama thinking she would lose if he didn't go up there. Just that the campaign believes she would lose - regardless of what he does.

If they think that, why risk it? If she's pretty much done anyway, why go up there and campaign if the end result is something that will hurt you?

Exactly.

Pres. Obama and his administration probably realizes there is a chance she could lose. So to make sure it doesn't happen, they went up there to campaign.

But I can tell you right now no president is going to stick his neck out there for a candidate they've already conceded will lose badly. Especially in a race everyone will follow and everyone will claim is a potential prediction of what's to come.

Now does that mean she won't lose? No. But again, and I'm sure you get it, there is a big difference between thinking someone CAN lose and WILL lose.

17. "why risk it?" risk/reward

If she loses it will hurt him a lot more in the math in the senate than in any personal prestige loss. The modest incremental risk vs. potential reward says go, campaign for all you're worth, regardless of how pessimistic you might be in private. I'm more pissed off at people leaking private thoughts than at Ed Henry for reporting them.

22. The article says they already think she'll lose.
If I told you leaving your house today you would die, would you do it?

If I told you leaving your house you could die, would that be different?

There is a difference.

I'm suggesting what Ed Henry is reporting is bunk.

If it were true, if Pres. Obama felt she was going to lose regardless, he would not risk it. He would have just stayed away and used Haiti as an excuse.

But he obviously doesn't think she's going to lose it because he went up there and is risking it.

Just like if I were to see you outside, I'd assume you weren't told if you left your house, you were going to die (not might die or have a chance of dying - but that you would die).

21. Obama didn't have a choice. This isn't some governor's race in
Virginia - this is a Massachussets US Senate seat that should never have been in play. Obama can't insulate himself from the fallout of losing this seat by simply staying away - and if he did stay away and she lost by only a couple of percentage points, there would be a lot of second guessing of his decision to keep his hands clean. I can't see any downside at this point for Obama campaigning for her - if she loses, he's hurt either way but at least this way nobody can gripe about him not doing anything to help.

23. Of course he's hurt if she loses.
But going out there and campaigning for her now sets the narrative that even Pres. Obama couldn't help her.

That's why the campaign wouldn't have done it if they were convinced she loses.

There you go.

They probably think she could lose - but I highly doubt they think she would lose. Only an idiot would go campaign for someone they know for a fact will lose.

6. It's becoming increasingly clear that the media have an agenda
in this race. They've pimped the dead heat until it wore thin, now they've moved on to depressing the Dem vote by 'leaking' 'confidential source' statements.

9. He's a tool and obviously trying to stir up shit.
Even still, this might be posturing if the "sources" really think that and leaked it on purpose. If Coakley pulls it out, it will be because of the President. If not, the "damage" will be *more* isolated to her and her campaign.

There used to be a cable news network by than name, but didn't that become the "All Baloon Boy, Nothing but Balloon Boy, 24 Hours a Day" channel?

I go on line or read the newspapers for my information.

13. It sounds like an intentional leak
They're setting expectations that Coakley will lose.

You always set expectations low. That way, if you do better than the expectations, it's a huge victory. If you meet the expectations, everybody expected it.

15. He is wrong. From other sources, internals show she has a good chance of winning.
The media is doing what they always do- playing presitutes. This whole year we are going to hear the media spin everything in Repubs favor. And, of course it all is about Health care- which it really isn't in Massachusetts.
Keep in mind that a lot of the crowds you see with Brown are Teabaggers and other RWers who came from out of state this weekend to campaign for him.

20. The media would love a Brown victory, it would provide days and days
of programming for them. All the 'experts' can discuss why the Democrats are losing power, what this means for the President and his agenda, what will happen in the 2010 elections, etc.

A Coakley win isn't much of a story and isn't likely to do much for their ratings.

26. I bet the source of the "confusion"....
.... you know me, I always have to give everyone the benefit of the doubt .... is that the WH is no doubt making contingency plans if she does NOT win in regard to HCR. Mark Knoller (in the press pool) is reporting as such. So "this is what we have to do if she doesn't win" is being reported as "the WH doesn't think she'll win."
