Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) today attempted to galvanize support for Democratic senate candidate Martha Coakley by referencing the "tea baggers" who are "revved up" by Republican Scott Brown's momentum in the Massachusetts special election.
In a fundraising email, Kerry emphasized Brown's tea party connections, joining the likes of Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who has called Brown "a far-right tea-bagger."
"Tea bagger," of course, is a term of some controversy among conservatives, with some even calling it the "N-word" of the conservative movement.
But that didn't stop Kerry from hitting them where it hurts: "We also see how revved up the tea baggers are at the thought of hijacking health care reform and every chance we have at making progress in Washington."
He continued:
Shady right-wing organizations and out of state conservatives have descended upon the state in droves. They don't represent Massachusetts values, but their enthusiasm - and cold, hard cash - could be enough to tip this election.
Kerry also said that "this race is a jump-ball. It all depends on turnout now. And it's not too late to make a difference."
