What is the ratio of Coakley/Brown ads on Boston TV? |
|
My hubby is watching NESN (the local Boston network--I hope I have the name right) on satellite TV. We're on the West Coast, and he is watching hockey. He told me that Brown is running ads at every commercial break calling on voters to "send a message to Wahington", complete with unflattering pics of Coakley.
No Coakley ads, he says. Is this typical in the local market?

1. No. It's been about 50/50 for us |
|
But I am not surprised that the sports channel has more Brown ads.
BTW, Comcast owns NESN and NECN.

They would have to sell ad time to Coakley if she wanted to purchase it, right?

But she didn't make a buy there because it wasn't the market she wanted to reach.
Maybe there will be more Martha buys on Oprah this afternoon than Brown buys. Just sayin.....

5. In Boston Brown has a big physical ad presence |
|
Along with a lot of yard/apartment window signs. I'm assuming Coakley is spending her money for that out west.

6. I saw mostly Brown signs in the North Shore area this weekend |
|
But I'm not sure that means much.
I live in "red" Massachusetts, just under the NH border. This region votes conservatively so I would expect more Brown signs here.

7. I think Brown is making a point of hitting Boston |
|
I would too, in his position: it's the smart play. The more he makes Coakley look like she's on the run, the more she actually is on the run. That's been his strategy this whole campaign.

Plus he has successfully tapped into the anger at other people's Reps in MA. (Most people like their Reps and State Senators in MA. They hate other people's Reps and Sens though.)

10. Yes I would guess the same 50/50 |
|
I'm in Boston. Last night it seemed there was one of each on every commercial break.

4. 1:1, generally right after each other |
|
Brown has a lot more street presence in Boston; he rented a lot of those trucks that are actually billboards.
