CBS Poll: 71% Don't Want Sarah Palin to Run for President, 26% Favorability, Book Tour Fail
Poll: Most Don't Want Sarah Palin to Run for President
Posted by Kevin Hechtkopf

A new CBS News poll finds that a large majority of Americans say they do not want former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to run for president.

Specifically, 71 percent say they do not want the former Republican vice presidential nominee to run for president, while 21 percent say they do want her to run.

When the results are split out by party, 56 percent of Republicans say they do not want her to seek the office and 30 percent do. Meanwhile, 88 percent of Democrats do not want her to run. Among independents, 65 percent do not want her to run and 25 percent do.

The poll also finds that more people view Palin negatively than positively and that her book tour did not improve overall views of her. However, she is a little better-known now than she was last fall, and both favorable and unfavorable ratings of her have increased slightly.

Now, 26 percent of people view Palin favorably, compared with 23 percent in November and July of last year. Forty-one percent now view her unfavorably, compared with 38 percent in November and 37 percent in July (both in CBS News polls). Nineteen percent of people in the current poll are undecided about Palin.

Forty-three percent of Republicans have a favorable opinion of her. Independents are divided, with 30 percent holding favorable views and 35 percent unfavorable.

Conservatives are the only ideological group that holds net positive views of her -- just under half do, while a quarter are unfavorable and a quarter of conservatives are undecided.

2. How many of the people who said they WANT to see her run...
... are Democrats who know what a disaster it would be for her to run?

I know *I* would say YES if I was polled.

I want to see the cross-tab for the number of people who WANT her to run AND view her unfavorably.

I think we'll be in luck too... as she'll be unable to resist. And she's absolutely toxic. :)

Although, I'd like to see the spectacle if a Presidential campaign she'd put on, seeing right-wingers humiliate themselves is entertainment for me.

14. Book tour Fail?
By what measure? She's raking in millions, or a lot of money. Seems successful to me.

Was her book Tour supposed to turn her in to a Presidential Contender or something? Well, she's already a winner. She's lasted on Fox a week, which is six days longer than I thought she'd last. If she's got what it takes to stay at Fox for a whole year, she could be our next President.

You read the piece, right?

I guess it depends on how you define "FAIL". If she was using it to promote herself as a potential political power-player... FAIL. According to this poll.

17. A failure in terms of book sales
Which is the ONLY reason why publishing houses foot the bill for these things.

We won't be reading a SECOND book from Sarah Palin, that's for sure.

Oh man it would be so entertaining to see her as the rep nominee. I can't wait for more questions like "who is your favorite founding father" and "what do you read".

33. I don't want her to have one more minute of media attention
than she's already gotten.

I think it's a dangerous proposition to wish her so close to the Presidency again. She needs to become an obscure footnote.

23. I must be in a small minority then. I loathe her political views and it TOTALLY want her to run.
II don't care about that whole "be careful of what you wish for" karmic malarkey; if Sarah Palin gets elected, blows up the world, and brings humanity to a halt... at least her sheer entertainment value along the way will have been worth it!

26. So even amongst those who view her as favorable, a fifth don't want her to run
Fortunately for us all, she's only interesting in being on TV and making money. Even if she ran, it would be all about the publicity and have nothing to do with public service.

28. Those are grim numbers for Sarah....
...but even if her numbers were better, I don't think she's going to run. It would be entertaining to watch, as listening to her is comedy gold...But there is much too much work involved it pretending you know what you are talking about. My guess, she stays with FOX, or whoever makes her the best offer. That's a much easier job.

If TPTB decide she should run, I can see the MSM spinning it in her favor already.
